Is anyone here a big fan of Joel and Ethan Coen?

They are the team behind Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Lady Killers, etc.

They are one of my favorites. I can watch The Big Lebowski over, and over again.

I also really like Fargo and No Country For Old Men.

How about you guys?

Yeah I like their films. Raising Arizona is a favourite of mine actually. But their best is Oh Brother Where Art Thou, brilliant film making.

I saw No Country For Old Men but got confused when
the main character got shot offscreen in the last fifteen minutes as if it didn't even matter.

And Javier Bardem is weird looking, and I'm pissed because he's been picked to play a really iconic character and I don't like looking at him!

It's not a hollywood film in many senses; where you have a protagonist and an antagonist that eventually meet for some form of redeeming duel. In reality the antagonist
would put a bullet in the back of the protagonists head and he wouldn't even see it coming. And so neither did the audience.

Fargo and the The Big Lebowski are great. No Country For Old Men was good too.

I wouldn't say I'm a huge huge Coens fan. I'm hit and miss. When they hit it's a big hit for me (Big Lebowski, No Country, True Grit), but then there are movies like Lady Killers and -- I know this will get me lynched but I can't help it because this movie did nothing for me -- Fargo.

There wasn't anything in particular I didn't like, it just didn't grab me. Their signature brand of screwball, quirky humour/characters just didn't catch me. It has a lot of elements that I like, and I appreciate it on some level. I like how it handles typical film noir conventions. It's technically sound, which is why I'd still rate it highly because the amount of love they put into their craft is there, but I had a hard time getting into it at the time I watched it.

A re-watch may be in order someday, though, because it almost feels like a crime that I don't like it that much. It's really just a matter of not liking a movie sometimes, regardless of how good it is.

I completely agree. There are plenty of movies that are lauded as being amazing amongst industry standards, and I can't sit through them. A prime example? Gone With The Wind.

I'd rather light myself on fire then sit through that again.

The big thing I loved about Fargo was that it refused to subscibe to rules. "This is based on a true story". No it isn't, you cant say that! "Why not?" Fair enough. :24::thumbup
