Roxi passed this little tidbit on to me and I finally remembered to share ;)

Did y'all know that if you have a toothache you can use cloves to dull the pain until you get to a dentist?

Now, I don't have the whole cloves - which you take a couple, chew em a bit and put them up near the tooth between your cheek & gum. Or, if you have a hole, put one in the hole.

But I do have powdered cloves. My tooth was bugging me the other night and I tried it. I put a bit right up there on the gum. It worked quickly. I didn't realize cloves were numbing agents.

Good to know olde style remedies are indeed still relevant. :cool

Does anyone have any good olde style remedies for stuff they'd like to share?

I sort of knew that one, never tried it though, only heard about it. Good to know it works!

I'm not sure if this is a remedy but I heard that if you put a conker (horse chestnut seed) in each corner of your home, spiders won't come in. Untested I'm afraid, but totally awesome if it's true!

That would indeed be one to check out!!!!!!!!!

No Spids welcome!

Except down here. If I don't keep at least one wolfie in the house we will get over-run w/roaches. It's a rough balance. Especially with cats who view the spiders as toys.

Ooh! I have another good tip - I have some very high heels but when I go out clubbing, invariably my feet get hot and my shoes slip. The last time this happened my toes ended up jammed right into the toe of the shoe and they got bruised :(

So I was trying to fix the problem, and discovered that if you stick plasters to the inside of the shoe where your heel and the ball of your foot go, they stop the shoe slipping! Plus you can't see them because your foot is on top of them, and they're pretty thin so they don't affect how the shoe fits :D

Not for those who mind what the shoe looks like when you take it off haha :p and don't use waterproof plasters, they defeat the object. Fabric are best!

Tip for school kids. If you flick your nuts, it will make you physically sick easily. Good for when you're trying to pull a sickie and convince your parents you're genuinely ill.

Oh really? Not that I wear heels that much these days, but good to know for the rest of the ladies here

If you burn the tip of a finger squeeze your earlobe with the burned one and the one next to it. ie: the nose picker and the thumb. It's the coldest part of the body and you can feel the heat being drawn into it. I learned that from an old Hutterite about 40 years ago and I've used it many times. If you don't believe me heat your finger tip up with a match and give it a try. Don't burn the crap out of your finger, just enough to get your attention.

Moonie..... When I had a dry socket.... the dentist stuffed it with a clove mixture. It was very strong smelling and tasted just nasty. But it was all tingly and I didn't have nearly the pain I did before she packed it in the socket.

Yes I did know that.:D
You can buy oil of cloves which is much easier to use than trying to mush up the whole ones.
