28 yr old man came by ambulance because of behavior problems. I went into his room to get him to sign his consent for treatment form after he was settled in. He had his back turned towards me and wouldnt speak. I gave him the clipboard and asked him to sign the form for me. He took the pen and the clipboard out of my hand and I was standing beside him, next thing I know I got smacked in the face with the clipboard that he threw at me. He told me he wasnt signing shit. That freakin hurt! :mad I picked the clipboard up after the shock wore off and told him his behavior was not acceptable and I was sooo close to probably doing something to lose my job over because I was highly ticked off. Luckily one of the other employees noticed and came in and he told me to leave that he would take care of this pt and told me to call security.
This guy ended up getting arrested before the night was over for attacking hospital staff. I did not know that someone could go to jail for that, but he sure did. He spit on the Dr cause he said the Dr interuppted him while he was "meditating". Freakin psycho!!

Ok Im done......I just had to vent!

yeah we couldnt locate our security last night either. Come to find out after searching for him, that he snuck out early and left his keys to his office with the registration girl. And the next security officer wasnt due in for at least another hour. So one of the male nurses went to his truck and got his gun out and brought in in, just in case.

Im tellin ya! The security there is a joke more than half the time. And they are city cops too that are doing the security. They get paid damn well too! They get paid $19 an hour! And its not hard work at all!

I'm sorry to hear that especially because of what I've done in casualty before because I was off on one on a mental episode, I once held the entire A & E up with a knife.:( I really feel for you doing a job that important for so much risk, I really think there should be better security in hospital, so sorry!:(

oh god amy im sorry you had to deal with that. I hope youre head/face feels much better. *hugs* i cant believe the security guy just took off early thats bullshit especially at a hospital where they have to deal with the drunks/crazies and everything...

security at hospitals even here are a joke though. i remember a few years back when i had one of my bad times...when cops brought me into the er to get some cuts stitched up...i asked them once they unrestrained me if i could use the bathroom...no one was paying attention to me and i just walked right out of the front door no shoes on or anything...right past the cop too. Though when i first got there i almost beat the shit outta a cop that was there cause i was trying to sit up and the asshole grabbed me by my neck and slammed me back to the stretcher (not like i could go anywhere cause i had cuffs on and cuffed by one foot to the bed on top of it) though he wasnt too happy with me after that cause i kicked him in the stomach to get him off of me after he chocked me.

Point being even here...if they arent paying attention and doing their jobs...they are doing something which shouldnt be done. ( I know this doesnt go for all cops so no offense meant to the ones who are great...and i do know a few of them) The cop i had the run in with was asked to leave by the hospital staff immedieatly after what happened.
