Hey, we were talking about ranks in the navy (my dad has turned into a JAG junkie...) and my brother (the ex army knowitall) didn't know the rank structure of the navy.

Is a Lt. Commander higher than a Colonel?

Can you explain the ranks and what is higher than the others for the Navy. (Steve could probably as well if need be).

E-1 airman/seamen/fireman recruit
E-2 airman/seamen/fireman apprentice
E-3 airman/seamen/fireman
E-4 3rd class petty officer
E-5 2nd class petty officer
E-6 1st class petty officer
E-7 chief petty officer
E-8 senior chief petty officer
E-9 master chief petty officer

thats it for enlisted

O-1 ensign
O-2 Lt junior grade
O-3 Lt
O-4 Lt commander
O-5 commander
O-6 captain
O-7 rear admiral lower half
O-8 rear admiral upper half
O-9 vice admiral
O-10 admiral
O-11 fleet admiral only during a time of war

thats officers

now there is a rank structure for something call warrent officers which are a bridge between enlisted and officers

all the services are the same when it comes to officers except for navy and coast guard we have our own titles
