Lets hear your rant.
(URUMQI, China) — China brushed aside international appeals Tuesday and executed a British man convicted of drug smuggling whose relatives say was mentally unstable and unwittingly lured into the crime.
Britain's prime minister condemned the execution — China's first of a European citizen in nearly 60 years.(See photos of the making of modern China.)
"I condemn the execution of Akmal Shaikh in the strongest terms, and am appalled and disappointed that our persistent requests for clemency have not been granted. I am particularly concerned that no mental health assessment was undertaken," Prime Minister Gordon Brown said in a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

Well there should have been (if there wasn't) an assessment that took place to see if he was completely sound of mind.

I disagree with execution anyway but this guy was clearly mentally unwell and most likely had been taken advantage of and duped into carrying those drugs. Its also very disturbing how China keeps the whole trial and evidence secret. Shit, fucked up government, what else can you say?:mad:thumbdown

fucking ridiculous. The guy was clearly not the full quid, what a bunch of complete cunts for executing a mentally ill person? I disagree with the death penalty all together, and this is the reason why. What was the point in murdering this man?

A new low for British-Chinese relations...

Sadly, this didn't surprise me at all considering China's complete disregard for human rights and it's alarmingly high execution rate.

China just doesn't give a fuck. Which is kind of scary.

no what's scary is they are becoming an economic superpower.

shit like this is a tip of the iceberg. wait till they're at the top of the food chain, they'll do whatever they want and the world will let them.

sounds familiar actually. actually not really since people have complained about the US and the death penalty for as long as i can remember.

at least the US doesnt have this...

USATODAY.com - China makes ultimate punishment mobile

from the article...the ultimate irony...
The switch from gunshots to injections is a sign that China "promotes human rights now," says Kang Zhongwen, who designed the Jinguan Automobile death van in which "Devil" Zhang took his final ride.

no human rights would be to get rid of the death penalty, not change the method you kill people.

Well, I'm afraid I don't share your fear of the development and progress of other economies.
I find the flippancy with which a military power like China deals with international relations a little more frightening.

clearly you've never heard of the golden rule. the one with the gold makes the rules.

ever heard of a poor man dictating the rules? of course not, but we know the rich can do whatever they want.

rich countries stand a far better chance of getting away with crap like this. this will only get worse as their economy strengthens.

Insanity plea is nothing unusual in capital punishment cases but judges won't be fooled. Just like in the Fort Hood shooting case Nidal Malik Hassan's attorney will use the same strategy during the trial.

So why wont they make public the trial details then? This is complete horse shit and shame on you for being brainwashed by it.

Nor will they release the body. They cremate it first. Some say it's because of the organ trade.

Speaking of trial.... did you see where I said his lasted a whole 1/2 hour. Reminds me of " Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean " and his famous quote... " do you have anything to say for yourself before I find you guilty and hang you? "

I can't understand why the " free " world continues to do business with those bastards until they clean up their act. What a fucking farce.

I don't know why anyone expects anything more out of a communist dictatorship with a nice looking facade...

I don't expect anything out of them and that's why I believe now is the time for the free world to revolt and quite importing their crap until they clean up their civil rights issues.

I know it's impossible to do because the rich just want to keep getting richer but for shit sakes someone has to rattle their fucking cage and how else could it be done.

I'd agree except for the fact that cessation of trade has never caused a change in a nation that did not want to change. North Korea, Cuba, Iran, etc etc are still going strong despite a long history of being economically isolated and none of them have the advantage of the population size that China has.

I think trade has done more to open China than anything else. They're building their increasing affluence of economic freedoms, which tends to increase the demand for political freedom. China is not a place thats going to change overnight no matter what but I think isolation might have other than the intended effect.

I dunno, the USA executes its fair share of mentally ill people too.

Because the standard for trial is not "mental illness" but "mental competency." Being mentally ill does not automatically mean you're incompetent for the purposes of knowing right from wrong and the consequences of your actions.

Not that I agree with the institution of the death penalty. Given its incompetency at everything else, I'm extremely skeptical of the ability of the gov't to get the right guy....
