Actually the egg came waaaay before the chicken. There was a lot of animals that laid eggs a long time before the chicken evolved. Fish lay eggs & dinosaurs all used to lay eggs.

if you want to get technical, sexual reproduction occurs at a far smaller level - bacteria and the like perform this act, eh, every some odd millieseconds or so... and have been for some time. so, sharpies is correct in saying that the egg came first, since sam did not carefully craft the question in asking whether the chicken or the chicken's egg came first.

well, even if you're speaking of the egg as a chicken egg, the egg still came first. Most likely the first chicken is a mutation that occured when it was formed inside the animal that laid the egg. But even so, the chicken had to come from somewhere.
