An electricity company scored an own goal today when the power poles they were carrying clipped and smashed another one at the intersection of Hawera's South and Fairfield Roads.
Electrician Graeme Corrigan got the fright of his life when the lines started falling towards his van.
''I got out of there pretty quick,'' he said.
Mr Corrigan said it appeared the truck, owned by Transpower, didn't have enough room to take the corner.
