I can't believe it! I can't believe Canadians didn't learn the first time around with this shithead for a Prime Minister.

It was nice to see the Green Party get ahead further than they have ever gone. They are the future I believe when it comes to politics...maybe not in my lifetime but certainly in my sons as we change our way of looking at the environment.

Bloody Liberals lost more seats because they have some artsy fartsy can hardly speak English fella running as their leader. They were my hope during the first part of the race of winning over the conservative shitheads.

NDP, is getting stronger which was good to see. they took some of the seats the libs lost and the conservs.:thumbup I like Jack not just because hes a family friend but because he is a genuinely good and honest person who I can honestly see running this country one day.

But all in all, it was a worthless election a big waste of money and time for all of us as nothing has changed accept the fact we have another probably two bloody years of the dictator Harper government.:thumbdown:mad

What did you think of the election ?

To quote David Lynch, on an unrelated topic but whatever:

Bullshit, total fucking bullshit.

We've heard Canadians bad mouth Bush for so long and complain about how stupid Americans are (I don't but you know) and now we're stuck with mini-Bush some more. Congrats Canada on being idiots. Given my beliefs, I wouldn't be happy with any of them but I'd have voted Green or NDP if I had to. Just anyone but Harper. These aren't partisan politics as I don't hate Conservatives by default, it's just Harper is a robot.

I am totally pissed off by the crap I saw yesterday and the last month... :(

I am happy for the Greens getting somewhere.. It will be awhile before they get some seats but they are showing some strength.

I was totally disgusted last night. Like Elsa you said they haven't learned. We are going to end up doing this sooner than later.. and I hope the fuck they toss Dion out on his ear..... Jim told me he is a smart man just not leader material.. So get rid of him as the leader and get someone who can speak both languages properly!

*shakes head in shame*

Kids act as the leaders .. Hell I think the kids would do better.. :( YouTube - Rick Mercer Report Election Kids

In the U.S. it has almost become a non-stop never ending campaign for domination. At least Canada has some good limits on how much can be spent. I don't know if there are also time limits too on when campaigning starts?

My thoughts in point form:

1) I dislike and distrust any leader/party that resorts to fear mongering. Harper/Conservatives did this, even calling the very thought of Dion being Prime Minister "scarey".

2) I dislike any leader/party that, in opposition, denounces another's policies as bad, but then supports those policies in fear of the ruling government failing a confidence vote and triggering an election with bad timing for the opposition party. The obligation of the offical opposition party is to critique, vote against and defeat any legislation deemed improper for Canadians.

3) I dislike any leader/party that, in a minority government situation, declares parliament "dysfunctional" and "unworkable" then calls an election only to score another minority mandate but declare it has the will of the people (actually they had only 38% of the popular vote) and can now manage the country with authority.

4) I dislike a leader/party that blows an opportunity to defeat a minority government (whom they oppose ideologically but support legislatively, therefore betrayed their sworn duty) then declares it's time to "work together with the government".

5) I dislike a leader that denounces their opponent's record of scandal and corruption and declaresl a new pollicy of transparency and honesty. Then once elected "appoints" non-elected persons to the cabinet! The the leader surrounds himself with advisors and security forces, dictates policy and denies interviews and questions to the media.

6) I dislike trying to vote when not a single canidate promotes causes that servies my personal needs or asperations.

7) I dislike endless elections that solve nothing and alienate the voters to the point that a record low of only 59.1% of elegible Canadians even bothered to vote, the highest being 69% in P.E.I. and the lowest in Newfoundland at 48%. Those numbers hardly seem democratic.

8) I dislike a group of leaders that, frankly if considering the history of Canadian political leaders, that hardly have a backbone between the five of them. They disgrace the definition of "Leader". Give me Diefenbaker, Trudeau, Sir John A. or even "Honest" Ed Broadbent.

Not being argumentative Lumpy so don't get me wrong.

But what was so great about Trudeau. I know he was loved by the left but for what?

From a Yankee perspective (mine) he did not seem to accomplish much. But I will admit I was not fully up to speed on politics and obviously not aware of the nuances going on in Canada.

He brought Canada into the 20th Century, so to speak. He was the dashing, playboy bachelor who courted the world's rich and famous ( I swear that Carly Simon's 'You're so vain' was written about him). But more than that he was an intellectual giant and a debater of the old school. I remember watching question period quite a lot on TV and watching the new Conservative leader Brian Mulroney try to corner Trudeau. Trudeau cut him to pieces every time. He had strength and charisma. Hate him or love him, he kept Canada together through the very turbulent '70's. He made tough but necessary decisions that made many people hate him. And no, I am not a Trudeau supporter trying to paint him larger than life. I never voted for him once.

But you mentioned him as one you admired it seemed.

Your description of him is kind of my take on it from the south.

Maybe a bad analogy but this kind of is like what we have with Obama. Perhaps more style than real substance?

Never heard Your So Vain might have been about Trudeau. Always thought it was about Mick Jagger. Although wiki says it has never been determined

I admired his intelligence and despite seeming very liberal could rule with an iron fist when necessary, such as during the October Crisis.

I can't compare him to Obama because I don't really follow American politics and wherear Obama has yet to demonstrate his abilities as leader, Trudeau did for many years, having been Prime Minister for 15 years over 4 terms.

You never heard it because the idea is unique to me. It has been said that Carly was singing about James Taylor. Who knows?

One other thing about the election: the future of two of the leaders.

It is Liberal Party policy that any leader that loses an election face a leadership review. If Dion does the smart thing he will not wait until May and step down now.

Harper wants nothing more than to rule with a majority but after two attempts there is not much chance he will get that chance on a third try. When the next election comes around we may be seeing two new faces squaring off for the nation's top job.

My opinion of the Candian result in one word

Wank!

If Obama gets in in the US, for the first time for a while, USA voters might look more intelligent than Canadian ones!:willy_nilly:
