CALI BY: Lou Karin Stout

Nineteen, bold, but bound by an admiration.
His words however harsh set my mind on fire.
He was the source of my elation.
He was the Higher (power).

A surfer, a singer, a man beyond men.
He made life worth living as a rule.
He made me not want to 'sin.'
He was "cool."

So I died when he told me to go to hell.
He gave me a one way ticket and bid me farewell.

After the worst was past, I still saw him the same.
And my attention found a place.
He was a hero, a villain, a man beyond fame.
He was greater than grace.

Cali drowned me in cold fog at night.
Cali killed my ambition.
Fight?
Amend.

So I took a hero's stomping grounds and tattooed on my hand.
When I threw him on the ground, I helped him back up.
Now where does He stand?
How full is his cup?

Cancer got him.
That bastard was a devil and everybody knew.
He could shout on a whim
at me or you

or anybody that he thought lower than himself.
...cancer got him.

Cali was ugly with a deceptive approach.
He was a failure at life but a winning Head Coach.

If you ever see Cali on somebody's hand,
his hero is dead.
He's the one in command.
