Guy can't win.

No Child Left Behind puts so strong an emphasis on math and science that the teachers unions are up in arms that it isn't fair.

On the other side, you have people complaining that he is singularly responsible for world class standards no longer being met.

LOL Reminds me of when Katrina was his fault.

One, if you lived in the state that he was responsible for before he went to D.C. you would know that his policies as far as public education were in fact devestating.

And you cannot deny, the man and his pals have a vested interest in pulling out the carpet. Reliance on companies abroad. Sending jobs over seas.

I do not think Katrina was his fault, Katrina was an act of mother nature.

His response was about as pathetic as his initial response to 9/11

Just my opinion.

As you say, I'm not from there, so I can't speak to it. How much power did he have over your legislature though? In California, the Governor can go directly to the people in ballot measures, but I was under the (admittedly vague) impression that other states did not work that way.

Almost everybody in America is currently employed. Further expansion does in fact require going outside of our boarders, but how many Americans are being employed by other countries right here at home? I know my buddies Japanese Tacoma was built right here in the U.S. of A. More income by foreign business is generated here in the U.S. than is generated in the rest of the world by U.S. business traveling abroad. If the whole world decided together to stop "offshoring," we would be on the losing end of the stick.

I don't understand the "vested interest in pulling out the carpet" part. :confused

Moving technology further overseas. Basically, you move entire departments of IBM, Rohm & Haas Chemical and basically as many technology based groups as you can someplace else, and get service cheaper. For the company.

You cannot say that making the Tundra in San Antonio as a windfall for American workers. The European Nations are far ahead of us in terms of medical technologies, advancements in chemistry.

Oh wait....Al Gore did win a Nobel Prize.

And thinking that the pendulum for public schooling put emphasis on MAth and Science is blind. If you do not have a school aged child, then I can understand lack of understanding, or for that matter empathy.

But part of the battle I am embarking on in my own state, is authoring (co-authoring) a bill to distribute funding evenly and raise the bar for sub-standard schools. Texas is way too wealthy to have the public education issues it does.

Our standards compared to Asian countries, and Europe is pathetic.

No Child Left Behind was a snazzy saying to rally Dem support. It's not policy.

No offense friend, but I can't tell if you're responding to my question, or if you're simply continuing a thought.

The federal government is not moving jobs over seas. Companies are. If you are suggesting stronger government regulation of business, then that is a different issue. With a 4.xx% unemployment rate though, the only choices are over seas, or stagnation.

I did not say the Toyota plants in the U.S. were "windfalls." What I did say, was that there are far more jobs here in America generated from foreign nations than we have moved off shore. If we decided to not do business with the rest of the world, America would lose more jobs than we would gain.

My son is not in school yet, but I have the next best thing. My wife is a school teacher. ;)

Again, I cannot speak for Texas, but here in Southern California, the problem with public schools is a language barrier that cannot be legally broken down. Smart kids sit idle by while the teachers are forced to deal with teaching concepts in smaller pieces for the Spanish speaking children to understand.

Our standards are being raised every year on a scale. They did fall too far, but are now on the right track. You can thank the President for pushing it through a Republican controlled Congress.

I'm interested in this bill that you are co-authoring. Shoot me a PM on it if you want to bounce ideas off a stranger. We may not agree politically, but it doesn't hurt to have a fresh pair of eyes on something.

Are you a member of the Texas state legislature then?

I don't think Right had anything to do with it. But..A bill was passed, sub-standard, but passed.

No I am not a member of Texas Legislature. I am somebody who has however spoken publicly by invitation on a few of the subjects you and I have been volleying.

We as a nation, but for certain as a state (mine) can raise the bar much more. There is never a shortage of money available to drop bombs on people living in the dark and wearing pajamas. Always seems to be a defecit when it comes to books, computers and raises in the public education system.

Our own Governor, former Democrat ( he moved across the isle when he realized that the dems hated him because he was a coward and a liar)
promised raises for Texas teachers. Lie

Promised close scrutiny on the way the state was alloting funds for public education. Lies

Promised a ratification in the standards by which students were monitored for educational progress. Lies

Amongst more...My fingers are getting tired. I will post the link for an excerpt from the talk I gave at a dinner one night.

LOL We seem to be having a major Comms issue tonight. I'm going to head off to bed, but we'll talk about this later I'm sure.

Have a good night.

I don't totally disagree with you, but I do have to keep it interesting:D

Yes you have some valid points, in fact all of them are valid and appreciated.

I am always going to have a bad taste in my mouth for the years good ole GW spent here, not much is going to change my opinion of him or his cronies.
