I haven't seen it and after hearing about it from family members who did, I don't think I will. They loved Borat and his silly over-the-top humor, but thought Bruno went too far and was very unfunny at turns.

Will anyone here see it? I also have to ask, is Sacha Baron Cohen a comedian or a performance artist?

I saw it. It had funny moments, but was nowhere near as funny as Borat. It was over the top for the sake of being over the top for the most part and you didn't get that sort of back-handed social commentary as much as you did in Borat which made it kind of smart if that makes sense. I'd say wait and rent it if you really want to see it.

That does make sense and was their complaint. The situations were taken too far just because he could. It was a funny criticism given these two generally enjoy really goofy films like "The Hangover".

I was interested to see what other people thought of it. If I watch it, you are right, it won't be at the movies.

It definitely had its funny moments...but more in a dvd rental sort of way in my opinion. The Hangover is head and shoulders above it and also very funny. While it is totally frat boy humor, there is a bit of mystery in it and you have a good laugh trying to piece together the evening as the guys go through it as well.

Hmmm....maybe that's it. They loved Borat so maybe they were expecting something along the same line and why they were disappointed.

Part of that is the fault of the people billing it. They make it out to be Borat-esque...and it is in a way, but I think it gives false expectations.

Yes and by your response and Pink's, you each had two expectations and were disappointed/please based on those expectations.

I know exactly what you mean about "dvd rental sort of way". I place some films in that catagory myself.

I couldn't come up with a term to describe my family's comic sensibilities, but frat boy humor fits it perfectly. They are open for the silliest kind antics in a film. I haven't seen "The Hangover", but it does sound good. I like a film that adds a twist and is not just straightforward and ho-hum. Even frat boy comedies.

That's what I thought might happen too. Too big the media blitz. Kind of beats the film to death before it gets to theaters.

I can't stand Sacha Baron Cohen... the only role he's been somewhat tolerable in was in Talladega Nights, other than that, he just annoys the hell out of me.

he was really good in Sweeny Todd too, imo.

But I do like him as an actor, he does that well. The acting, I mean.

John and I were looking for a theater in south Birmingham- surprisingly all the ones within a 5 mile radius of Riverchase Galleria are out business. But we were planning on possibly seeing Bruno. And we ran into at least 5 grocery stores called Bruno's and the high school we saw was the Bruno family campus. It was too much.

I'm not sure it would be something I'd pay for. I have to be in exactly the right mindset to watch that type of thing or else it annoys me.

Just by the commercials i thought it looked stupid so I won't be seeing it.

Cohen is not to everyone's taste. I know a few who won't be seeing it, ever.

That's too weird! It reminds me of the film Michael, the last act where the characters keep running into "angel" related stuff. "Angel hair pasta." Angel murals. "Angel food cake."

Maybe Cohen was "reaching out" to you, subliminally. :)

Small and probably boring fact - His cousin is the leading expert in the UK on aspergers syndrome, met him and he's a lovely guy!
