Which comedies do you tend to watch? Do you prefer the American comedies or the British ones.

How about if you look back in time, have you always preferred one over the other?

What about in the instances where the same show has been produced on both continents, for example The Office.

Personally I think the 60's/70's British comedies ruled but that, by and large, the slicker American comedies have kicked ass over the last decade with the odd exception.

I liked the British Office better than our version.

I prefer British comedies by a long way.
It's probably patriotism, probably cultural as well.

Some American comedies I like.... Frasier was ok at the beginning. There's probably one or two more I'm forgetting.

Oooh tricky! I love American sit coms but think the likes of Little Britain are hysterical. Also love the Royal Family who are apparently doing a Christmas special.......cant wait :willy_nilly:

Only comedy show I enjoy watching of late that isn't a re-run for us YET is little Brit.

I suppose Craig Ferguson could be thrown in there too....used to love watching Everybody Loves Raymond. I'll even catch the odd re-run of that.

Oh and Comedy Inc.

Rick Mercer Reports, a Canadian show, super funny! The Canadians have a great sense of humour. Their comedy is equal to British comedy, I think.

US comedy ...very rarely will I find something good unless they have one of the Canadians in it or Canadian writers.

British comedies by far. Maybe it's a cultural thing but I rarely find American comedies funny at all. The only ones I can think of that I like(d) are King of the Hill, South Park, Beavis and Butthead, Simpsons and Cheers. Funny how all but one of them are cartoons too. I would put in Flight of the Conchords too but I would call that more a New Zealand comedy, even though it's set in and produced in America.

I've not watched much of the more modern ones, but Gavin & Stacey and Mighty Boosh were excellent

A lot of them, the BBC3 ones in particular late at night, seem retarded and desperate

At the moment I mostly love Curb Your Enthusiasm. Which is kind of what Jack Dee is trying to repeat in a Brit way in his latest thing

I think culture definitely plays a part. I can appreciate the merits of British comedy, but it doesn't really do anything for me.

personally i like british comedy, espescially monty python's flying circus. i don't really care much for american comedies (even though i'm american). i did however like beavis and butthead and the first 8 seasons of the simpsons and futurama (until it "cameback" with a "movie"). i absolutely hate the show king of queens... no fat man i know could marry such a hottie, and of course she treats him like absolute shit... :mad

my tastes in comedy really vary, I don't care for which specific group I like most since I just like to be entertained, so keep making me laugh! :D
