Not that I don't want to post any articles abt Singapore in this forum. We are small and peaceful here. Everything ticks like clockwork here.
This guy asked for it and he got what he asked for.
Singapore police have arrested the British author of a book about the city-state's use of the death penalty.
Alan Shadrake, 75, is being detained on criminal defamation charges which carry a two-year prison sentence.
However, the government says the book - which includes an interview with a former hangman - has not been banned.
Mr Shadrake told reporters before his arrest that he was expecting trouble when he went to Singapore at the weekend to promote his book.
"If they do anything, it'll just draw more attention to it all, and they have no defence," he told AFP news agency.

Lmao....I am not here to impress. I can write impeccable english for your info (it should have been "would'nt"} English is not my native language but i speak and write better than most americans.

My point is this.
Trolling is an art, a form of expression that includes but is not limited to spouting off blatant attempts to anger the community of a forum with a point of view that is widely that opposed of the general public's.

You troll therefore you are, because you know what you're doing.

Fair enough. Thanks for your opinion.

How dare he speak out against your oh so very perfect government, right? How in God's name can you claim that he got what he asked for?

Kelvin this is such a revealing statement on your part. You would not do well in a democracy. If the state allows no criticism of it's policies you are a prisoner of the state and subject to it's every whim. Big Brother is in control, and you are nothing. If you are happy with that, then you deserve the outcome. :)

We are two different contrasting systems. There is no comparison. Your system is good for you and our system is good for us, nevermind the constraints. The govt is efficient and honest and they delivered the goods. People here are happy and they enjoy a high standard of living but one smart British guy thought he could move mountains here but he will soon be behind bars.:24:

"Human rights monitors have long criticized the government however for using defamation suits to stifle political opposition. Separately, Singapore has banned a movie made by a local film-maker about a human rights activist, saying the film was not in the public interest."

You'reproud of this kind of thinking?

You remember that the next time you have a craving for some gum.

You've basically justified an oppressive regime while in another thread you blast the United States for being "racist" while linking to an article that had nothing to do with the US. You're jealous, plain and simple. Behind your facade of loving your country, I bet you just want to be able to chew gum in public.

If your government can not tolerate criticism then it is serving itself and insuring its survival. It's not serving the people. Open your mouth and protest a policy and you'll see how fast a liability you become. The people should control the government, not vice a versa. It's no laughing matter. I'm sad for you.

And the saddest thing? I predict you won't have the intellectual honesty to admit I'm right.

They're really not much better off than those living in Communist China when you think about it.

Singaoreans decide on our domestic issues - not foreigners. We hold free and fair elections every four years. That sums up.
