A tornado struck Branson MO killing several people a couple days ago. Yesterday at work I read the newspaper headline, "Branson battered but feels blessed". The headline should have read they feel lucky which means the reporter is glad the storm didn't kill any more than it did. Using the word "blessed" means the reporter is glad God didn't kill any more than he did. The reporter has no evidence that God had anything to do with the storm. When are reporters going to stop implying that God is responsible for the deaths of innocent people?

Wow, people are recently killed and you are using it as an excuse to get on a soapbox? Pathetic. Why not use an example that isn't so recent and show a little respect for the victims.

I think you are picking at straws Born... And I tend to agree with Heinz.

I don't know what Heinz wrote. But I think it's insensitive to drag God into natural disasters. Like he has anything to do with them. When someone says blessed, I think of God. I agree it is a straw. I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine.

An asphalt shingle got blown off my roof but that was all. I live on a windy hill and that happens when most big storms blow through. I have to replace 5 or 6 shingles every year.

Seriously? There is a tragedy like that and all you do is have an "eye roll moment" at people for being grateful. Sad.

Really. Maintaining as positive outlook as possible is important when a tragedy strikes. Being grateful for you do have is one way to do that. Counting your blessings helps. Leave it to the "God haters" to find something wrong with it.

Positive isn't equal to God for all is what I think is the issue here.

I cant see what the big deal is with the term blessed, its not blaming god its just saying it could have been worse.

Interesting. When someone says they're blessed, I think they mean God has blessed them. I suppose to many it just means they feel lucky. If so then I don't have a problem with what the reporter wrote. But if he was saying God blessed the survivors then he implied God cursed (or at least didn't bless) the victims. The people who died were innocent victims of a natural disaster. To suggest God loved them any less than those who survived is insensitive to the families and friends of those who died.

Several homes were destroyed to the north and the south of me on Wednesday and on Friday. I feel fortunate.
