ORLANDO, Fla. -- The medical examiner said on Friday that a 12-year-old boy who died after riding at roller coaster at Disney had heart problems.
"No evidence of injury was found, but congenital heart abnormalities were detected, which will be further evaluated," associate medical examiner Sara Irrgang said.
She said the official cause of death will not be announced until results of additional studies are obtained, WESH 2 News reported.
Disney officials reopened the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney-MGM Studios on Friday morning.
"Evidently, the 12-year-old, when the ride ended, the father noticed that the boy was limp. He helped the boy off the ride and at that time began CPR," said Barbara Miller, the spokeswoman for the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "Reedy Creek was notified, responded within minutes and little Michael was transported to Celebration Hospital, and subsequently he died."
Byron Russell is an Army Green Beret. Miller said rescuers were at the ride within three minutes.
The family said they did not know of any prior health problems.
