All babies are born without belly buttons. The belly button is formed after the stump of the umbilical cord dries up and falls off, aproximately 10 to 21 days after birth.

well in my case i had a belly button made for me by the doctors. my abdominal wall dint form and all my intestines were out side. im not exactly sure where the umbillical cord goes in the baby but obviously it was still attached to that or i wouldnt be here.

but a girl i went to school with had the same problem but they never made her a belly button. it looked weird as hell. but atleast mine looks semi normal. minus all the sugical scars to close up my stomach and to attach the belly button.

I have heard of this before. There are lots of faults that occur inside the womb, many of which would have caused the death of a child years ago, but we can now repair much of the damage. Missing skull pieces, not properly formed digestion systems, poorly formed lungs, holes in the heart that don't seal. There are a lot that we can't fix as well.

The umbilical cord is the only source of nutrition to a fetus. It provides nutrition from the mother and returns waste products to the mother for disposal. In other words, it is essential to the life of the fetus. At birth, the umbilicus is discarded, along with the placenta, but evidence of it’s existence remains in the form of the naval. If a person does not have a naval it is because he/she may have had a medical condition that required it’s surgical removal.

I don't know about a baby not having a navel after birth, My grandfather had no navel, but his was removed in a surgical procedure, and yes it did look weird.

well if your adominal wall dint form like mine dint and all of my intestines were on the out side then your obviously not going to have a belly button. so my stomach was open and all my intestines were on the out side. went in to sugery, doctors put every thing back in and also took out my apendix. sewed up my stomach and added a little belly button so it wouldnt look weird.

I won't go into detail because of personal reasons, but it is possible on many medical conditions to be born without a salvageable umbilical chord to have a normal belly button. Someone close to me has no belly button or any sign of one what-so-ever due to a medical condition at birth. Haus knows the drill...
