FOR AMERICAN women in the military, the most common cause of post-traumatic stress disorder isn’t enemy bombs. It’s sexual assaults by fellow service members, according to the Pentagon. Likewise, military statistics indicate that women in the armed services suffer sexual assaults at twice the rate of their civilian counterparts, a blight on the military’s record in the past 40 years of integrating women into its ranks.
