of course it was totally fictional.
well technically it was real. the actors were not actors, they were told about the legend and they used the equipment that they were given to film the documentary. The fear is real the reactions are real, none of it was scripted.
What was fake were the events. it was cast members from the movie, stage hands that set up the strange events to get the reactions. No one new this until after the release of the movie so it was hyped up as a lost documentary found in the Blair woods.
It was a great concept and had an amazing advertising campaign. They had a budget of 1000 dollars and made millions.

I heard that they made it on a budget, wiki claimed that the people who they interviewed were not actors themselves

What is your source? This is a horror film that used documentary style and as movies do, consisted of actors. It is not a real documentary gone awry. No "real" fear, no "real" reactions, maybe not scripted, but bottom line, it's just a movie filmed for the public's entertainment.

I hate the Blair Witch Project. Everyone told me to watch it becuase it was the scariest movie ever and I watched it waiting for something interesting to happen and nothing ever did.

I felt cheated at the end. So boring and predictable. I could film Zorak sleeping in night vision and it would be scarier.

It was the first movie of it's kind that I remember seeing. If you can half pretend it's real, then it becomes more tense. My number one complaint is that I hate nausea-cam. I realize that they were going for the home movie look, but it made me ill. I was really irked with Cloverfield for the same reason. You can give a movie a look and a feel without going overboard with spazzed out camera work. Even home cameras now have stabilization! :)

Went to see it at the cinema, got pissed on a bottle of brandy and laughed through it, so did all the teenage girls in there. A film only big because of stupid hype that it was real, oh, and the second one was even worse
