Is the world ready for a black president or a woman president?

Or are we so closed minded that only a white man can do the trick?

I think that the world should be ready for both. It's not closed mindedness....its just that not a lot of black people actually get in the presidental election.

A black president (or woman for that matter) isn't near as shocking as people thinks its going to be. I don't see anything to be ready for, except maybe stepping out of the dark ages.

Americans seem to me to be the only ones with hang ups about Obama being black, his colour isn't an issue over here.

I think the question would be better if it was is the USA ready for a black president, I cant say that I've really seen this being an issue else where.

Yes, it is. Though I do not think Obama will be elected, but it won't be because of his color. But I of course can't predict the future ... so you never know.

I don't think McCain will win but this could just be desperate wishful thinking. Hilary is out thankfully so it'll be Obama.

I'm willing to bet a sizable percentage of white American's will not vote for Obama specifically because he is black regardless of what other positive attributes he possesses. I like him because he's fresh, he sounds intelligent, and I like his ideas.

I disagree. I think people are ready for a change and if he is going to be the Democratic nominee then it wont matter what color he is. I have found that most people only believe what they are spoon fed by the media. Most people dont take the time or energy to do their own research. If CNN says its true....the populus will believe it. No questions asked.

You disagree? You don't think there are millions of bigots who live in this country who'd have problems with both a black person and a women as the President?

Yes. I disagree. I think that there are millions of people in general who have had problems with white men as well. If you have a problem with a common black man or common white woman and suddenly you take that aggression out on a presidential nominee then you have bigger problems than bigotry.

So when did England last elect a Black Prime Minister?

We haven't yet but it wouldn't be a issue about his skin if we did apart from minority extremist such as the BNP. You might also have noticed we elected out first woman prime minister nearly 30 years ago and her sex wasn't too much of an issue even back then.
