Anyone here used Bitcoins? Seems it's becoming more and more popular and the value goes up all the time. Whats your take on Bitcoin?

Yes I've bought them in the past, to see if I could make some profit by selling them at a higher price, but ever since SilkRoad (black market) went down, the value dropped like a bomb. It went from being €120-ish to €90 in a few hours. But apparently there are some new black markets that are rising in popularity, which made it more valuable again. It's risky to invest in but it can get you a lot (really, a LOT) of money if you do it right.

And it's super safe and anonymous!

I haven't used it. I heard about it for the first time two years ago or so, thought it was a stupid fad and didn't really pay attention to it. If I had invested some cash back then, then I could have made a nice bit of money. I feel like I'm too late to start investing in it though. I doubt it's going to rise a lot in value again.

I haven't got any, but i heard their value dropped a lot since silk road got busted! What can you buy with them? I can see them as being useful as an alternative currency but probably not as useful as ebay where you can just sell your own junk to make money and then buy something useful with it.

I'm not an expert, but I have been following it for a while now, and I found out that there are other coins still popping up (Litecoin, for example), so I personally would wait for the dust to settle before I make any major judgements concerning this new thing. It's still a great thing to have, though, as it does serve as an option to transact without getting tracked, which is getting harder and harder to do nowadays with all websites tracking everything you ever even look at.

So far bitcoin isn't much like a currency. You can't really spend them anywhere other than a few websites and trading them for cash on sites like Mt Gox. So they work more like a vehicle for financial speculation than anything else. As a result their value is prone to some pretty wild swings and bubbles.

The whole thing reminds me of the early days of the internet. Everybody was buying stock in "dot coms" and driving the prices way up only for the share prices to plummet when people started trying to cash out. Some website would have an IPO at like ten bucks a share. The following week the stock would be worth like a hundred bucks. A month later it would be worth three.

That kind of wild speculation seems like all that is driving up the price of bitcoin.

Haven't bought any Bitcoins yet but I've read up a lot on it and I'm considering investing in a few soon, just to figure out how the trading works. Apparently the value remains constant for longer periods and price fluctuations are drastically crazy but I'm willing to see how it goes for me.

I've been following bitcoin a lot lately. I'm not sure if I would buy it as an investment, but I'd love to see it being more used and accepted. Think about all the things that would be easier over the internet for people like me that doesn't have a credit card.
It's a great idea, and I think it definitively will be a part of our society in a nearly future. Not sure if bitcoin exclusively tough, there is a lot of other digital currencies ricing (like litecoin) that want their place too.

It's risky to invest in bitcoins because the price is always changing from time to time.
Right now, one bitcoin is worth more than 500$ which is really impressive, and those who invested in it earlier must be really happy. haha

It's even higher - $720 at the moment. Yesterdays high was $900. Thats really crazy.

WOW, that's mind-blowing!
Last time I checked was like 2-3 days ago and the price rose that much? Damn.
But there's probably a crash coming, and the price will drop. A lot.

The current price bubble is pretty crazy. Even then I'm not buying any, they're just far too much of a pain to get into and really aren't good for anything genuine. I'll leaveBitcoins to the drug dealers, money launderers, investors looking to make a cheap buck and other dodgy people.

I saw Bitcoins when they were just getting started and I really thought nothing of it. Personally I thought it would flop in no time.

But over time it seems that it has become a very popular currency however I still have not really got into it.

Pretty crazy to have BitCoins reach a worth of $1000, to go from $1 to $1000 in a matter of years is ridiculous. I'm sure as soon as I buy some or start using them the price will crash though, really makes you wonder how much further these things will go.
