Fellas, back out of this thread now or I can't be held responsible for what you might see, IJS

I talked to my gyno about going on birth control at my last yearly checkup. Because of my age and my weight loss, a hormonal birth control isn't recommended. The option of permanent sterilization was put on the table, but even though I'm pretty sure I won't change my mind about having kids I don't see any reason to be sterilized w/o a reason.

My gyno's recommendation is an IUD. He gave me pamphlets on 2 different kinds. Mirena, which has a very low dose of hormones and is a plastic IUD...and Paragard, which is a non-hormonal copper IUD. Mirena is good for 5 years while Paragard is good for 10 years.

Does anybody have any experience w/ either IUD??? I have to admit, I'm a little freaked out by the thought of having something implanted in my uterus, but the throught of having nearly fool-proof birth control for 10 years is tempting. I've done some research online and it seems that insertion is fairly painful if you haven't given birth before.

Anybody got any input???

I had an IUD and had no problem with it. My body just started having monthlies every other week so I had a partial hysterectomy. but I had no problem with my IUD Natasha..... that was about 10 years ago.

1800 bad drug - go to their website and see what they ahve to say about mirena LOL

A friend of mine is a paralegal for one of the firms organizing the class action lawsuit against them.

I'd say having to take a pill every day beats the shit out of taking the risk of getting some of the shit they claim the patients have.

Yes, but at my age the pill isn't recommended by most gynecologists. Also, my gyno wants to go non-hormonal or a very low dosage of hormones so we don't undo my weightloss progress.

Birth control, also known as contraception, is designed to prevent pregnancy. Birth control methods may work in a number of different ways. These include

[*]Preventing sperm from getting to the eggs - condoms, diaphragms and intrauterine devices (IUDs) work this way
[*]Keeping the woman's ovaries from releasing eggs that could be fertilized - birth control pills work this way

Yeah, pretty clear on what birth control is, thanks. Now if you would kindly post your link to whatever site you're representing so we can ban you and be on our merry little way, we'd appreciate it.

I was with one girl who had one. Those damn things hurt when you really get into it and then she would spot for a few days.

Was her insertion fairly recent? I've been told that the man can feel it at first, but as time goes on they can't.

Right now I'm planning on being single for a little while, anyway.

there is a new technique that involves little coils being put into your tubes, no hormones....BUT its almost on the sterlization side of things.

That's the essure, I think it's called. I'm iffy on trying something that's in the early stages and I wanna say it's marketed as an alternative to tubal ligation.

Some of the risks and the shit that is being claimed in the lawsuit is downright :Barf:

1. Prolapse of your goods... can you say meat skirt? LMAO eeeeeewwwww...
2. Painful intercourse for the rest of your life
3. Possible hysterectomy as a result of abnormal reactions or infections
4. uncomfortable scarred tissue

f that... then again i am not a woman but still
