I'm watching a program about 1997 and have to say it was a very memorable year. On a personal level, I had major, life changing stuff going on then, on a national level we had the election where Labour won by a landslide. I'd only ever remembered the Tories in power and the depressing Thatcherite government fucking over the working class. A Labour win was expected but I watched open mouthed as big Tory MPs lost their seats, one by one in a huge landslide. We also had the death of princess Diana and a great year for music. It's not a year I'll ever forget. What are the big years you will always remember?

For a different reason, '97 was a big year for me too. We had an epic December, '96-February, '97 because of multiple blizzards, followed by a humdinger in April of that year which began with freezing rain and worked into snow. Power was out all around the area for up to 2 weeks for some folks.

The winter of 2008-9 for the same reason, followed by heavy runoffs in the spring which prompted the Army Corps of Engineers to discharge heavy releases from the two dams that control the James and Pipestem Rivers, which converge in town. High groundwater led to heavy infiltration of sanitary sewer lines which overwhelmed lift stations. As a municipal sewer worker, I spent a few sleepless nights combating this problem, alongside my coworkers.

1991, the year I married the love of my life.

I don't remember years. I'm pretty '99 was when I moved up to secondary school. Nothing significant sticks out for me.

No doubt ...for me the days after the attack 9/11..I arrived for a new life in USA in the first foreign plane allowed to land in USA.
The most strange flight I have ever made....circling for hrs above LA and a complete SILENT 30 hr flight from NZ...no movies just a whisper from flight attendences ocassionally and after that not only for me but also the whole world would never be the same.

2005 was a good year for me as I FINALLY moved to a school which catered for my Autistic needs, which meant I could actually relate to people and have friends. Managed to become my own person instead of being a sheep.
2009/2010 - I become a totally better person, becoming a "famous" face in school because I was totally awesome.

Really, any year from September 2007 has been big for me as I've been improving myself as a person and becoming alot better as a person.

1994- Very hard year with my dad's mistress and all that bullshit hitting the fan, I think it kind of set the stage for the rest of my non-childhood and made me what I am today.
2009- Met my boyfriend
2010- Decided to lose all the weight, got into grad school, met my bf in person, nearly lost my mom a few times
