My wife step mother came over to our house 2 nights ago, she is a born again christian, hard core. i respect her and her beliefs, we tone things down when she comes over to make her feel comfortable, but i think this woman crossed the line, in MY home the other night. my wife and i have a figurine we purchased while on vacation in the Dominican Republic a few yrs ago. its of a man standing in traditional indian gear with s huge grin on his face holding some ritual knife. i liked it so i brought it home. well her step mother has always made comments about it here and there, and other day she finally lost it, saying it resembled the devil and it has an evil spirit and needed to be removed from my house. I just had enough of this crazy bitches rant. i have bent over backwards for this woman and her bringing her religious crap to my house. I believe in god, i believe in heaven and i believe in hell, it may not be HER god, but i certainly believe in one. so who the heck does she think she is coming into my home and damind things be removed because she feels the devil seeping thru an innocent artifact!

I know how you feel. I have my office covered with HINDU artifacts and some people just CANNOT stop from commenting. We can only control ourselves and wish that others would show the respect that they are shown ( and preaching about , lOL )

If you are a Christian, you are taught to accept and love everybody for who they are, no matter what your beliefs are and how you live your life. That's what really bugs me... for someone who claims they are Christian, and then to go into someone's house and say something like that... ugh...

Be sure you confer with your wife. I see two ways to go. 1) The easiest is to put it away when she comes over. 2) Respectfully tell the step mom that this is simply an artifact, with no devil relationship and that if it is too upsetting for her, maybe she should not come over. I can see your wife, pushing for 1).

its my mother in law, its not that easy to tell her to not have her here (as much as i'd love for her to f-*ff. Also, my little artifact from Dominican Republic ended up in the garbage :( I lost that battle. But now I feel like flying back and getting 10 more and displaying them all over my house for that Bible Thumper to see! Grr!

I think you made too big a deal out of it frankly. I get along better with my mother-in-law then my wife does, but I generally defer to the older generation giving due respect. If I knew she didn't like it, I would have told I will get rid of it, just hid it and put in back when she was gone. Simple, easy, no fuss, no fight, no hurt feelings.

i guess you had to be there, it all happened in 5 minutes. i wish i had hidden it, trust me, but it happened so fast right in front of me. i was shocked at my wife agreeing with her simply to make her feel comfortable.

thatd piss the hell out of me as well.

there's that centuries old tradition of supposedly not getting along with the mother in law... must hold some truth because it happens a lot. I would never bend to the will of somebody else who is obviously being unreasonable.

If I spent good money on something and they got bent out of of shape over it they can let the door hit them as they walk their butts out of my residence.

:( Yes, my wife told her step mom 'dont worry, we'll get rid of it'. I was raging inside!

That's tough. I think your step mother-in-law had no right to impose herself like that. But then again, better you sacrifice the statue for peace of mind and pussy.
