Beijing Olympics: Now Argentina's footballers photographed making 'slit-eyed' gesture

The image shows players Maria Potassa, Eva Gonzalez, Fabiana Vallejos and Andrea Ojeda smiling broadly as they pull back the skin on the side of their eyes, in a crude impersonation of Chinese people.


The photo was published - without provoking controversy - in the Argentine sports newspaper Ole on Aug 5, to accompany a preview of the team’s first match of the tournament against Canada.


It was taken more than a week before adverts featuring the Spanish men’s and women’s basketball teams in similar poses sparked international criticism.


Last Thursday a photo emerged of members of Spain’s Olympic women’s tennis team pulling the same face earlier this year, in anticipation of an upcoming match against China.

wouldn't worry to much about the argies gina......they're up they're own arses.......besides they're having fun at your expense which in my reckoning is better than they're hatred towards britain......bastards

Who was it Lebron or Jason Kidd that said if it were Americans making pictures like that...there'd be all hell to pay. We'd probably get bounced out of the games altogether.

No, the IOC doesn't care about anything but doping. There is evidence that China has been cheating by sending underage atheletes, AGAIN, but the IOC just ignores it.

The IOC cares more about apperances and not looking stupid. They will def bust drug users, but ignore that China didnt fulfill nearly any of their promises they made to get the games to begin with (Tibet, Freedoms, etc.) and the IOC doesnt care. If the Chinese female Gymnastics team gets nailed for being nearly all underrage then the IOC looks like a bunch of dicks, which is they want to avoid at all costs.

Thats a little short-sighted. Racial humor is a part of life. Its just jokes. Its one thing to realize that differences in people/cultures can be the subject of jokes as long as its not meant to be cruel.

And I dont feel my stance makes me a racist, I have Portugeese,Black, and Mexican friends that I trust alot more then the most of my white friends. But when we get together, We all bust each others balls. I get called guinea or wop, or my own personal favorite "Captain Cannolli", and we bust the mexicans balls about his green card, and various other jokes that male friends make at each other. It doesnt make us racist people.

I've been the butt of racial jokes all too often and it isn't funny. Disliking overt racism isn't being short sighted. It's one thing to joke between friends but to mock an entire people like these women did is just racism.

I see what you're saying. Im just speaking as because I make fun of my buddies, who also make fun of me, I wouldnt consider myself a racist. If I saw someone being cruel or humiliating to somebody they dont know based on their ethnicity Id probably speak up about it.
