Awesome movie, and forgive my lack of intelligence towards the subject, but I have a few questions about the movie(If anybody here can answer them).

When the missile in the opening scene is about to destroy the jet, what exactly does it do? It looks like it shoots the plane, then turns into a huge fireball and hits the plane, but I've never heard of a missile being able to do any of that.

Also, when the first missile is side-tracked and hits the fireball, it blows up, but the second missile doesn't. Why wouldn't both of them do it, and can that even be done?

The missiles fired are SAMs (Surface to Air Missile).

The first one just hit the ground and exploded because it ended up chasing a fixed heat source from the external fuel tanks the F/A-18 Hornet dropped. The second one had a proximity senser in it so when it got to a set distance to the heat source it's tracking (which was a moving heat source), it'll blow the "shell" and basically eject hundreds of projectiles (kind of like a shotgun shell being fired, it just ejects pellet balls) at the target. The fireball from the jet came from the fuel that was leaking out catching fire and tracking back to the tank, where the pressure caused it to explode.

Ha, yeah. It's on again now(Repeat since it's Wednesday). Damn good movie indeed. We watched it in History a few weeks ago, pretty funny. Most of the girls didn't like it. Besides SAW, it's definately on my top list of favorite movies.
