For the last week or two, Ive been pretty depressed. Ive been working out at the gym hard core and working with a trainer 2 times a week. Ive noticed Ive gotten flabbier in certain spots and I GAINED weight. I dont understand because Im not eating junk. I shouldnt be gaining weight. The trainer tells me to stay away from the scales, that it is mainly muscle that I am gaining..but i cant help to notice that I am flabbier. Is this normal? Its got me feeling really bad about myself. :(

Muscle does weight more than fat, expect weight gain when toning up and working out. Start measuring inches rather than weight loss.

You may not be drinking enough now, your skin could be getting dehydrated and looking deflated... mine started looking that way recently... I know I'm not drinking enough and all those toxins are settling back in with no where to go.

I am still loosing though, down to a size 16, though I think I'm smaller still.

Some of the powders to add flavor to water are helpful without adding calories. In this heat staying hydrated is very important. I empathize. I start working out and expect to lose pounds only to gain muscle weight.

Well the way i was explained when i started working out again was that..

For the first few weeks you won't see any visual improvements actually you'll look worse because your body is loosing weight but gaining muscle so I guess that would be why you think you see flab.....When I was targeting my stomach at first I didn't see any improvement infact my stomach to me got less hard and I started to look like just a chubby guy not really fat just chubby...then I kept going and sure enough the flab I saw went away and muscle took it's place....Pretty much how my trainer said you loose the fat but muscle takes twice the time fat does to grow in it's place...so you just maybe seeing where in the past there was no muscle and now you've lost some weight and now the muscle has to grow in...

I've seen girls at Bally's pass out all the time and start crying frantically most are high BP some are because of Sugar and the others are just exhausted......But yeah you should def. get checked....

Keep at it V

Oh the wonders of what you would look like...thats what I keep telling myself each day i go back to the gym...not of the pain and soreness but of what the outcome could be...

How long have you been working out regularly?

and how many days a week?

If you just started then it definitely is muscle weight. The good news is muscles burn calories better than fat. So it won't be long before this turns around quite a bit.

I don't know about others but anytime I have either started running or going to the gym it takes me about 6 weeks to get things really working well. At that point it becomes addictive and you will feel guilty missing a day if you work out 5-6 days a week.

Give it your best for the 6 weeks. You will not regret it.

Then I want to see some bikini pics :D

lol! Its actually been about 3 weeks of working with a trainer. we work out about 4-5 times a week. I need to do more but i havent had much time. Me and my friend tammy is doing this together and we are both noticing flab. :( I have noticed certain areas of my body become smaller, but not where I want it. Dont worry..my boobs are still big. lol

And yes, If I get down to where i want to be.. I WILL post bikini pics. :) (but only in vip!)

She makes us to weights first, then cardio afterwards. She says in order to shed the fat, we have to use our carbs on our muscles instead of cardio.. i dont really understand.

from a buddy, he says that you need to "break" the muscles...

by spamming work on the muscles using the weights, then following up with cardio, you effectively break the muscles (lets the muscle/brain know to send the right shit to build more muscle) at the end of the cardio, but also can get in your cooldown or whatever.

I heart cardio, although I have not done it for a while. Might start running the beaches here or something after some time getting back into a running shape.

keep at it..

and you can post bikini pix whenever you wish (does not have to be when you feel like you look good, because you always look good :D ... unless your waving that ban stick... :willy_nilly:)

i can only advise from a runners perspective as I never get inside a gym

slow aeorobic (easy) running will burn fat, but very very slowly

every now and then, (at least once a week ) if you can up the effort level to short bursts of anaerobic activity where you use energy from the muscles (glycogen) rather than fat stores, you will raise metabolic burning levels ( least this is how it was explained to me) so when you return to the slower (easier) work you will burn fat more rapidly

Muscles weighs more than fat, so you may gain weight when you start.

I think you should put away the scales as well and focus on what you are doing to improve yourself instead of getting caught up in #s.

Everything will fall into place once your body has adjusted to it's new routine.

I am sorry but why are girls and women so self conscious about they're weight. I have a friend who says she's fat and she is as thin as a stick.

As I said in your rep - I can't really add anything important to the excellent advice already given. I do know as you get older sometimes your metabolism slows down and it's harder to get the pounds off and keep them off. But that's more for me at 44 than you yet. I gained almost ten pounds when I started working out again :eek

If you focus more on how healthy you are, then how you look isn't that important. It was funny on SNL, but I'd rather feel good than look good :)

It's weird the first couple of weeks, isn't it? But stick with it and you will start to see everything pull together. When you first start to lose inches, build muscle, lose weight, etc. your body does start to change shape. When you start to lose fat in certain places and you're just starting to build muscle, it takes time for those areas that have been used to the fat there to sort of go back. But it will and does! Just keep at it...3 weeks seems like a long time and I had the same frustrations when I first started...then stuff just started melting off and toning up. You'll see!! You're doing great!!

I also agree with Heather...kick the scale to the curb for a couple of weeks...you'll be amazed at the result when you're read to bring it back out!
