So my latest obsession has been Beast Wars--I've been watching episodes on youtube, and I think the show is simply awesome. It's put out by Mainframe Entertainment, the same guys who made Reboot (which is equally awesome, haha).
Anyway, I think just about everything about Beast Wars is just plain awesome. The characters look great, they have wonderful and well-developed personalities, and the storylines are good and captivating.
However, I think that the off-shoot series--Beast Machines--sucks on ice. The music isn't all that great, the animation seems cheap, and the characters are UGLY. Not only that, but the storyline sucks.
I also don't like what they did to some of the characters. Look at what they did to Silverbolt--I mean, in Beast Wars, he was kind of cheesy and sappy at times, but he had good strength of character. In Beast Machines, at first he didn't know who he was, then when he gets his memory back with his girlfriend's help, his first impulse is to run away screaming. Then he says that everything he once stood for is meaningless. Come on! The old Silverbolt would have at least snapped out of the apathetic, self-pity mode for his girlfriend if nothing else. Though I don't think Silverbolt would really have gone into a self-pity mode at all.
