Ballard hit his own goaltender Vokoun on the head... it was a complete freak accident by Ballard, Kovy scored a goal against the Panthers and Ballard got very frustrated, decided to whack his stick against the goalie's post but whacked Vokoun... Ballard is such a dumbass...

YouTube - Keith Ballard almost decapitates Tomas Vokoun

Wonder if the NHL would take action against players acting out in frustration on the ice, but it's pretty unpredictable at what can happen especially when emotions get very high... no one has ever seen this happen before in hockey... so it was shocking to most people.

Urgh, that really is mega annoying.

Boo the Habs, Whooo... someone else? I don't know anything about hockey.

The Habs are the most sucessful team in the NHL with a long history of winning many championships and the fans there are very spoiled brats, highly demanding and playing there is like a fish bowl, every movement is watched by any player and if they don't like you, they'll let you know. Sometimes they boo for the most stupidest stuff as well... *sighs* they are the last Canadian team to win the Stanley cup though... :(

I saw that clip of Ballard giving the BC twohander to his goalie at lunch yesterday. Unfriggin believable. Did he get a suspension??? Should not matter if it was his own player. He is lucky he did not kill the guy

Looked at TSN, Bob Mckenzie had this to say about it...

One, the NHL never thought of suspending Ballard for the high-stick on his teammate. It's funny how many people wondered if that might happen.

Two, the Florida Panthers never thought of any type of internal discipline for Ballard. And a lot of people have wondered if that might be a possibility.
I am sure the NHL and the Panthers believe Ballard's punishment for this misdeed is simply being mortified that his temper tantrum resulted in a pretty significant injury to a teammate. Just having to watch that highlight over and over and over again should be punishment enough for Ballard.
The good news is that there doesn't appear to be any injury to Vokoun beyond the ear-area laceration.

Vokoun apparently felt well enough on the plane last night to talk to Ballard and tell him to forget about the incident, although Vokoun might have mentioned that Ballard owes him a number of free dinners.
As for their teammates, as soon as it became apparent Vokoun was going to be okay, it would be fair to say the Panther players are having much fun at Ballard's expense and the ribbing has already begun.
That's probably the best therapy for Ballard, who was naturally devastated after the incident.

I heard something to that effect today on the radio.

I think it is bullshit

The league should do something. If nothing else they could go after guys that break sticks over goal post with delay of game penalties for having to clean up the stick.

This stuff is nuts. Guys have no respect for other players well being. It all started with wearing helmets. They guys think they are immune to harm. Got rid of fighting and now guys are swinging their sticks at back of legs and now this.

What would you rather go after it being, even if it's to their own team... a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct... or else should they do a suspension?

gotta go with a 10 game or so suspension for doing something like this

this shit with the stick swinging has to stop.

I wonder what Don Cherry will have to say about it.

Oh and a fair warning for you Canadians. Froggy will be crossing the border to Windsor in the next week or so. :D

We'll know you're here when the women here keep saying PRICK, the men will say BITCH... :)

I'm also wondering what Don Cherry would say as well... I can so predict the start of his rant "listen up kids."

I don't know if a 10 game suspension would warrant with situations other than Ballards with throwing a stick in frustration, however injuring another player should warrant it, even if it's a teammate. Poor guy though...
