RENO, Nev. - A couple authorities say were so obsessed with the Internet and video games that they left their babies starving and suffering other health problems have pleaded guilty to child neglect.
The children of Michael and Iana Straw, a boy age 22 months and a girl age 11 months, were severely malnourished and near death last month when doctors saw them after social workers took them to a hospital, authorities said. Both children are doing well and gaining weight in foster care, prosecutor Kelli Ann Viloria told the Reno Gazette-Journal.
Michael Straw, 25, and Iana Straw, 23, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts each of child neglect. Each faces a maximum 12-year prison sentence.
Viloria said the Reno couple were too distracted by online video games, mainly the fantasy role-playing “Dungeons & Dragons” series, to give their children proper care.
“They had food; they just chose not to give it to their kids because they were too busy playing video games,” Viloria told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

it's hard to explain, they're not exacting STARVING their children...they are just cheap and will think of themselves first with things. They just make horrible parents. It's not enough for c.p.s. though./
I see what you mean. ;)

I understand it must be hard to stand by and watch it. If they live near you, you could be a wonderful aunt and take the kids and spend time with them, get them away from their present situation as much as possible; be a positive, loving force in their life. ( I know you can't do so at the moment )

I have a nephew and 2 nieces that live with parents that smoke pot, gamble, and drink. They yell and cuss. The family makes over $100,000 a year in an affordable part of the country and yet they are still aways broke, having to pawn things to pay the bills. It's ridiculous. I know they love their kids, but they clearly do not understand what love is. They constantly put things before their kids, they just don't see that they do.
