Depends on what you like. I thought Avatar was an awesome movie; amazing special effects, great story line (I don't care if it was recycled!). Other people think it's a crappy movie. :dunno I'd recommend it.

Normally I'm anti-3D as I consider it mostly a gimmick, however if you are going to see a 3D movie it should be Avatar or one of the space movies they are always showing at iMax. :) Avatar is simply stunning even with a story that some call recycled. The theme is recycled, but the setting and characters are new and it is a GOOD story and an amazing technical achievement. Cameron built this planet from scratch. The visuals are stunning especially on iMax.

the old 3-D is gimmick...i went and seen alice in wonderland in 3-D not the right movie to watch that way, but the 3-D was most definitely amazing compared to how it used to be

I concur with the positive views of it in 3d. I don't know that I'd go back to see a special edition in 3d - but the original was indeed amazing at the cinema.

For me it's a bit overrated. Sure it has flashy visuals and the advantage of 3D but the story to it didn't really grab my attention all that much.

I second. :thumbup Themes are recycled, story is original. I saw this movie originally in 2D, then went to see it in 3D at IMax. If you are going to spend extra money, this is the kind of movie to do it for. IMAX was incredible. However, I won't be going back to see an extra 6 min of footage (or whatever it is).

Tread Revival

I recently watched the BluRay extended collector's edition. It was very good. My comments intended for those who have seen the extended cut.

1. They could have left out Earth scenes. I really like in the original release that you don't know immediately that Jake Sully is in a wheel chair. More edge.

2. I enjoyed the story of Grace's school not that it's a happy story. ;)

3. The hunting scene that follows Jake acquiring his Banshee was outstanding.

4. Extended love scene? What did they add a couple of kisses? Maybe I missed it. In any case not impressed. ;)

5. The Peeps attack and burn the Bulldozers. I found this to be interesting because in the original release, the peeps did not kill anyone on screen until after they were attacked at Home Tree.

6.Tsu'tey survives his fall but with fatal wounds, assigns leadership of the clan to Jake, and asks to be killed (Jake obliges reluctantly).

7. Very brief scenes added, some only a couple of seconds long, like a horned rino type creature also featured in the hunting scene impaling a mech unit during the final battle.
