I love it when conservative posters go bonkers over a movie like Avatar. One guy (not here) claimed it was anti-business, anti-military, anti-religion, and most galling it was pro-environment, the devils work!! LOL!

What do you think?
Does a movie about a evil fictitious corporation make it anti-business? Are all corporations, even imagined ones good? Was Aliens, anti-corporation? Is a movie about a serial killer, anti-human? Is a movie about mercenaries enabling a corporation to disenfranchise the natives, anti-military? For comparison is a movie like Shindler's List, anti-military? Is a science fiction movie about an imagine species with their own religion an attack on established religion? These arguments are just too funny.

LET THE INDIGNATION BEGIN!! :p

I think it has an underlying message on several fronts and re-emphasises past sins like what has been done in the past to people who were not like the more affluent at the time. I found it to be an enjoyable story and did not find it preachy at all. It did make a point about greed and I think that has been done many many times. As the people involved are reaping billions of dollars in sales. That qualifies as irony to this old country boy.

I see more indignation....

James Cameron Hates America

The conservative attack on Avatar.

James Cameron's Avatar has been greeted on the right with the kind of immediate snarling antagonism reserved for Oliver Stone pics. In an article titled "Cameron's 'Avatar' Is a Big, Dull, America-Hating, PC Revenge Fantasy," Big Hollywood's John Nolte called it "Deathwish 5 for leftists." No less an authority than MovieGuide, "the family guide to Christian movie reviews," awarded the movie "four Marxes and an Obama" for its "abhorrent New Age, pagan, anti-capitalist worldview that promotes Goddess worship and the destruction of the human race"—an unfortunate formulation that also happens to clip most of my favorite Disney movies. Drudge has been providing a daily drip-feed of joy-killing stories: "Vatican says no masterpiece," "Audiences experience Avatar blues; depression and suicidal thoughts. ..." In the words of one right-wing blogger: "This is cinema for the Hate America crowd."

Well you know according to conservatives, V for Vendetta was an anti-Bush Administration film. The Right Wingers are quick to attack, lots of demons to expunge for the purity of the party.

This quote from the linked article attributed to The Family Guide for Christian Movies would be funny if they were not dead serious. Avatar is awarded: "four Marxes and an Obama" for its "abhorrent New Age, pagan, anti-capitalist worldview that promotes Goddess worship and the destruction of the human race." I find this kind of hyperbole coming from the far right, very scary. If you are fanatical in your beliefs it does nor really matter which God you worship or don't believe in.

Sorry i like this part on page two..

That's a potent mix." It is, especially for a medium as fluid as cinema, which quickly bores of people in perfect agreement with themselves. Remember that Cameron was born in Canada in 1954, which means that he spent his formative teenage years—the years he was getting into guns and trucks and girls—watching the giant that lived next door receive the beating of its life in Vietnam. It left him with an almost forensic fascination for "how the mighty fall," his enduring theme as a filmmaker, from The Terminator through to Titanic.

What? Set in London? :24::24::24: Personally I saw it more as an attack on our Labour governments "big brother" policies.

Yes, set in London, a movie partially about where fascism and corruption can take a country. Right wingers think they know when they are being talked about regardless of the setting, otherwise why squawk? ;) However, I used the same argument as you about a 20 year old comic set in a different country. Whose fault is it that some of the themes seemed to apply? :)
