Not really needed but salesmen will often try to sell you one when you buy an android product claiming it is prone to viruses. Have you installed an AV app and has it detected any viruses?

I had one installed, but all it really did was take up space and drain the battery, so I removed it. Android devices can get viruses, but if you don't click the wrong links your device isn't in any danger. It's the same as with a pc really. If you don't download files from suspicious websites the chance of you getting a virus is pretty small.

The way to go is to use to use virus total.
It's not a real time scanner but you can check your entire phone with it

android is small form of linux
there were very few virus that attacked the OS
The OS grew faster and more powerful than windows but was not glorified and incorporated
linux has better security than windows
I have used all my phones without antivirus to save battery and space
of course there is maleware to deal with and thats a different story
