I Have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 and was wondering if there is a way to run AutoCAD on it. Maybe a cheap or free download. I am running Mac OS X 10.5.2. Any help would be appreciated.

I looked around and it seems to me that there isn't AutoCad for the Mac, however I could be wrong.

I don't know about a cheap one or free download cause those particular software are expensive. Unless you *wink wink* get them by other *wink wink* means. Might be worth a shot.

Apparently, it's not available for the Mac as yet in native form. Very strange. I would have thought by now it would have been.

However, Mac users have been running it (Auto Cad) on their macs with something called "bootcamp" or "Parallels" installed. Most likely a sort of simulator (Mac/PC).

Here's what one user said. This may be helpful to understand better:

AutoCAD usage on Mac
Dear all,

Two things :

- With bootcamp, the Mac will behave just like a PC, with the same memory requirements (1Gb of RAM should be enough -but not too much- to run AutoCAD), and the mouse should behave just like it would on a PC, including the mighty mouse which will be seen as a standard 3 button mouse.

- With Parallels, you will need more memory, for both OS X and Windows will share it. On my systems, (MacBook Pro and Mac Pro with Parallels and 2 GB of RAM), panning works fine with mighty mouse middle button down (as with other other mice). But you need to modify the default Mac settings for the mouse in OS X first : System Preferences -> Keyboard and mouse -> mouse tab. Make sure the left button is assigned to "Secondary button" and the middle button is set to "Button 3". This should solve the problem for all type of mouse.

I sometimes have the mouse pointer displaying on top ofthe AutoCAD cursor issue too, but it is resolved by switching to full screen mode (alt + enter).

Hope that helps,
Jacques
