Rodriguez is the stepmom of a player on Joe’s team. She sits in the same spot at all games and captured video last night of Joe’s high-scoring performance. The teenager wanted people to know he's autistic, but that it didn’t stop him from achieving a goal, Maldonado said.
"He said 'Coach, see if you work hard, you can do anything,'" Maldonado told us.
Parents and students found it inspiring. Joe is a straight A student and San Antonio Spurs Fan. Just don’t ask him to name a favorite player.
“They are all good by themselves but much better when they are working together,” Joe insisted.
Joe has no trouble telling us how he got some assistance from above to score points.
"Right after the game, I realized what had happened," said Joe. "I said, I trust you Lord and that made my confidence boost til the end."
With that confidence, there are no scoring predictions, but he is definitely ready for the next game.
