These pictures were taken in August of 2005, just days before Hurricane Katrina hit.

I think these birds were having some foreplay...right there in front of everyone!!!

Rainforest exhibit.

aquarium12.png

Puffer fish...I call him my "ugly little old man fish" b/c he reminds me of, well, an ugly little old man.

aquarium7.png

Stingray...looks like it's smiling at me. *shrugs*

aquarium5.png

Can't see that well through the glass...but that's a huge ass snake in there.

aquarium21.png

I always liked this picture...I like the colors in it. Would be better, though, had I not gotten part of the enclosure in the picture. *shrugs*

I think these are called scorpion fish...can't remember. They're poisonous, though...I remember that. And I think it's the same kinda fish that gets blended up in Deuce Bigalow. LOL

aquarium33.png

aquarium34.png

Weedy Seadragon.

aquarium32.png

Pregnant seahorses...seawhores!!!

aquarium35.png

Definitely my fave photo!!! By the way, this was obviously BEFORE I figured out how to work w/o a flash on my camera. LOL

aquarium25.png

Best I could do w/ the woman right next to it standing in my way. GRR!!!

aquarium37.png

Starfishies!!! There was a "touch tank" close by...we pet a starfish and a baby nurse shark.

aquarium36.png

FROGS!!! Yay!!!

aquarium40.png

Big ugly frog...don't remember what it was called.

aquarium50.png

More of Buck. It was feeding time and, as a treat, he gets an ice cube w/ a shrimp inside. He was slamming the ice cube against the glass to get the shrimp out.

Upside down jelly fish.

aquarium56.png

Makes me think of Finding Nemo. :D

aquarium55.png

Spots, the white alligator (NOT an albino alligator...he has some type of nifty genetic mutation that makes him white).

aquarium54.png

Another frog.

aquarium52.png

Treefrog.

aquarium51.png

Penguins!!! These had to be shipped off to Texas (I think) after Hurricane Katrina. They're now back in New Orleans, from what I understand.

aquarium61.png

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, shark!!!

aquarium59.png

Jellyfish.

Even if I just get like a lil mini baby one I'll be content. Well no, if I do that I want more than one. Iono a 10-gallon would hold 2 baby tiny ones I'd think. Then you'd have 1/2 rigged with water so they can swim. Awww I really want a turtle or 2 now. They're so cool.

is the ice cube thing with the otter to show how they would get into muscles/clam/oister type shellfish?

Actually, they DID mention that. They give them the ice cubes w/ the shrimp inside as a treat if they do well that day...and then the otters chip away the ice to get to the shrimp so they can eat it. It's really really cute. :D

i just love the macaws nat

They're beautiful birds, aren't they???

He's really pretty...and BIG (LOL). :) Here's what their website says about him.

White Alligator
11663.jpg

One of the most unusual residents of the Aquarium lives in the Mississippi River Gallery—"Spots" the white alligator. One of just 18 rare white alligators found in a Louisiana swamp in 1987, Spots is white but he is not albino. He is LEUCISTIC; a gene mutation gives him his white color and steely blue eyes.

Spots and his siblings (all male, by the way) probably wouldn’t have lived long in the wild since their white coloring wouldn’t camouflage them from other animals anxious to dine on the tiny hatchings. As goodwill ambassadors from Louisiana, Spots and his brothers are celebrities the world over! They’ve appeared on many news and entertainment programs including the Tonight Show, CNN, Today Show, Nashville Network, and CBS Morning News.
