Has anybody read this book? I'm reading it for the second time. The first time I read the book I couldn't get past the speech. I'm determined to read through it this time and finish the book. There are so many similiarities between it and what is happening today. I absolutely love the book. What's your take on it?

Who is John Galt?

One of my favorite books IF you skip the Galt Speech.

Seriously, just go in, find those 40 pages of complete self-serving dwaddle, rip them out and without them it's an interesting book

Yea, I thought about skipping the speech, but I think I may try to read it anyway.

Very good book. Also read Fountainhead if you like Atlas

I thought about reading Fountainhead. I may do so now.

There are rumors about them making Atlas into a movie. He can find all kinds of stuff about it on the internet. Some of the cast was rumored to be Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I think they would ruin the movie if they were casted.

Agreed, and it wont touch the book.

Fountainhead is shorter (but not short). It has allot of the same ideas expressed in Atlas but not as drawn out,

But it is similar as with Rand books, the story is carried by the ideology and characters, I actually liked Fountainhead a bit better than Atlas, but not by much. Roark (the main character in Fountainhead) is one of the greatest characters ever. You get through a few dull spots just to get back to his portions of the story

I've wanted to read both Atlas Shrugged and Fountainhead for awhile now. We read Anthem in middle school and I've re-read it several times since.

Fountainhead was obviously the pre-cursor to Atlas Shrugged.

She used the character of Dominique to work out the details for Dagney, and so forth.

Anthem was also good, if you can get past the first few pages. It is written in first person without using the word "I". Picture how tricky that can be to read.

Fountain Head and Atlas Shrugged should be must see material. I found them hard to put down. But I have seen some complain they are boring.

If Pitt and Jolie do the movie they better have a conservative director or the movie will not represent what is in the book.

Ayn Rand was way ahead of her time.

I forgot about this thread. I did finish the book this time around. I tried to read through the speech but she was talking more about religion and her atheist views than government and the economy. Great book all in all. Definitely one of my favorites. Her view on economics is great.

For those of you that have read it, see any similarities between what happened in the book and whats happening right now? I sure do.

I read those two books about 10 years ago and all I could think of then was how she had a pulse on things and how eeriely it reflected how we were headed. Thus the reason I stated earlier it should be must see reading.
