I am trying to find a link but....

A WA man has won the right to "die with dignity" after a court ruled he was in a "sound enough state of mind" to decide that he did NOT want palliative care, and would starve himself to death.

He says he may "still change his mind" but at least for now he has the option

Off to find a link

Considering his health and lousy quality of life he should have the right to end it.

What bothers me about the case you mentioned is that he will have to starve himself to death and that would be a shitty way to die imo. As far as I'm concerned he has many valid reasons to quit this life and someone should be able to assist him and end it quick like a bunny if that's what he finally decides.

Absolutely. But at least his carers and nurses won't have to shoulder any responsibility, or worry about legal ramifications

(Thanks for answering by the way))

I doubt the matter will be over. Some nutjob religious organization will probably come along and find some loophole to throw back at the court to try and stop this type of thing. Bastards!

No need to thank me but at the same time you are welcome welcome.

It's a subject I've been interested in for quite a few years. My personal belief has always been to allow euthanasia if a person is in a state where his / her life is nothing more than constant physical pain bla, bla, bla.

There have been a few cases in Canada over the last few years that has opened the doors to the " debate ". The most famous was that of Sue Rodriguez. Link.. The fight for the right to die She didn't win her case in the Supreme Court thanks to religious wack jobs but she did end up taking her own life with the assistance of an " unknown doctor " and a Canadian NDP MP named Svend Robinson. Bravo to her / them.

I still think its wrong, you have to look at the bigger picture. This opens the door for elderly people being bullied into stuff like this by greedy relatives wanting their inheritance or just simply not wanting to look after them any more. There is no perfect answer to this issue, unfortunately.

I don't see anything wrong with voluntary euthanasia, and I completely understand why some people choose to go down this route.

However, I do wonder if once assisted suicide is accepted in law and culture whether the right to die will turn into a duty to die.

That's exactly what the fear mongers want you to think. The system seems to be working just fine in Oregon and other places around the world. There's lot's of checks and balances to ensure misuse doesn't take place.

I think this is good too.

We're allowed to put our pets out of their misery. We should be allowed the same courtesy.

I doubt that right will come here any time soon.

Oh the political circus Terri Schiavo caused down here. It was disgusting. Politicians falling all over themselves for the cameras:

Perhaps one day religious whack jobs will mind their own business?:24:

yes that was an awful scene, the worst side of humanity was exposed ( on both sides of the argument), Terri did not die a dignified death, in the end she was kind of like a puppet for propaganda from both sides

Yet those same politicians tell us 'they hate us for our Freedoms'.:24:

It was disgusting. It should have been a wake-up call. Heck, if I remember correctly even Jesse Jackson got in on it. Bill Frist diagnosing over the phone..... I mean please......:surrender
