Do people realise he's not able to play for* England? He doesn't meet the criteria set out by* FIFA for British nationals, which is purely on Birth,* (grand)Parentage or schooling. He is simply not* eligible. The sooner the media realise that the better.
Discussion over. 100% true.

Although considering Ireland got away with it with Cascarino and Ray Houghton I suppose they could get away with it.

He is a very good player.

How are you supposed to get support your country in football if it's actually going to end up as not that at all and just a bunch of foreigners? If you won the World Cup like that, you could hardly say your country is the best at football. Dumb idea. I'd rather more time and money was invested in developing youth and grass roots level football instead of looking to foreigners to bail us out.

Like Springsteen quoted, you have to be born British or at least have some kind of British roots...FIFA rules, this is why I was confused on MOTD last night

As much as I like Mikael Arteta as a player, I think because he isn't exactly a spring chicken (heck, the guy's 28) I do think that players like Jack Rodwell, Jack Wilshere, Dan Gosling and Nathan Delfounso should be ahead because, and not to sound racist, they are English, and young. Ditto the players who are still there and still have potential, the likes of Walcott, Milner, Downing, Young. And that's just the midfield (where Arteta plays).

Because they have different governance, FIFA govern the FA and it's FIFA who get the say on International representation. Not to sound racist but if you are a fan of a particualr sport and a foreigner represents your Country I don't see how you could possibly fully support him, which is why I never supported Greg Rusedski at tennis.

absolutely not.

English football might be on a low right now, but we're not in such a bad situation that we need to take other peoples cast offs.

But why should people from other countries be able to play in football? I like it as it is at the moment.
if someone moves to the UK makes it their home, commits to the country, renounces their allegiance to their homeland why not take advantage fo their skills

I see what you mean, but they can still play for their homeland at an international level while playing for an English club:thumbup
