Aristotle and teeth

For whatever reason I was just standing in the mirror brushing my teeth, and Aristotle came to mind.

Did you know that he believed that women had less teeth than men? Despite being married twice, he never bothered to actually "research" this theory by checking his wives mouthes, rather he just rolled with this "theory" and obviously, it was bullshit.

Did you also know, his second wife was a former slave, and he willed her to executor of his Estate when he died.

Those must have been some strange times.

In Ancient Greece, people ate lying down on their sides.

Another fact that I find interesting: Rome had apartment buildings like we do today. Some were very high, so that if you went to the top, you could get a pretty nice view of the city of Rome. The rich didn't inhabit the top despite the nice view. They lived in the lower levels so that in case of a fire, they could get out first.

Also, housing was very complicated in Rome. Let's say you had a person who owned an apartment complex. He rented it out to tenants, who could then rent their spaces to tenants, who could then rent out their spaces to tenants etc etc. This led to crazy overcrowding.

Also, in Rome, like other Ancient civilizations, tax collection was outsourced. Groups would compete for the right to collect taxes. The government would state how much money it needed in revenue. Any excess money that the tax collectors took, they could keep for themselves. That's why they're viewed so negatively in the Bible and such.

Those are my interesting facts for the day. I'll try to remember more.
