these days everything has to be sterile, which means that we're not getting exposed to germs and bugs, meaning that our immune system has no way of fighting certain things

He's right. If we aren't exposed to certain germs, our bodies can never get used to them and produce the antibodies to fight them. Then when we are exposed.... we get sick. That's all immunization shots are- dead virus cells. They put the virus into your body and then you find a way to make the antibodies and then when you are introduced to the cells again, your body can defend itself.

I think it's ridiculous how clean everything is now. I mean, I clean, but I don't disinfect everything. I'm not anal about using my Purell, although I carry it around because I chew on my fingers and that would just be gross.

That's pretty disgusting. I feel sorry for those you shake your hand.

I don't use antibacterial products because they're bad for the environment. But I'm very clean. I wash my hands after using the restroom, and I take daily showers. Cleanliness is Godliness they say. :thumbup

I do agree Ian.

We don't sterilise anything except the milk bottles.
My kid plays in the sand and muck... sometimes even getting it in his mouth... and he is super healthy :)

Ian has an excellent point.

Momentary sterilization via Purell etc. Isn't good in the long run. Actually the biggest issue we face is a virus and its ability to resist anti-biotics after several exposures.

A virus has an uncanny ability to morph into a more resistant predator than before. Spend some time reading books on Virology and immunology.

Epidimiologists have been warning for years that the over exposure to anti biotics, and the steady development of new anti biotics will eventually put us into a dangerous predicament.

Exactly... part of the problem is all of the antibiotics being given to cows and chickens, which are passed to us in our food. Causes many problems.

Not to mention the steroids and hormones.

Here's what is scary about steroids in beef and poultry:

The animal matures at an alarming rate as far as edible tissue. BUT the immune system doesn't mature at the same rate, leaving them vunerable to infection.

Which causes need for anti-biotics.....

Why can't they just let the fuckers grow up and enjoy life.....Before we chop their heads off:p
