Wern't sure whether to put this in here or the sports forum but I'll try here. Had a very interesting conversation withy my missus cousin who is a proffesional financialist about this and we both agree, USA sports are very socialist. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing it, in fact I wish our sports were similar, instead of having less than half a dozen teams who run away with the league every year, it would be much more interesting and exciting if there was a more even playing field, draft picks, wage caps, ect which kept the competition alive. We both found it very strange though that the USA is so anti socialist yet produces probably the most socialist sports systems in the world. Thoughts?

Parity encourages fan interest which generates revenue, so whilst it might on the surface it look a tad left to balance the skill level the long term viability of the clubs and therefore their ability to make money is paramount

Well so far as i can tell it works this way the league works for the owners, so the NFL is like a rich mans club, the millionairre owners work with a guy (commissioner) and they, after getting agreement with the players union, set the $ limits on salaries etcetc
So in a way the league is the clubs

I guess it's easier to control in the USA when you're the only ones who pretty much play the sport profensionally. The problem we have - say the Premiership put a wage cap on, players would just say - fuck you, I'll go to Spain or Germany or Italy or UAE where some rich dude will pay me what I want.

So do you think the premier league has been good for the game, back in the day of four divisions there was less money but maybe more teams capable of winning the league, seems to me the prem is now just a two or three horse race

Totally agree with you! It was a much more open race back then. We have probably got more quality players now but it helps no one except the fat cats. The English national team hasn't improved and is full of billy big bollocks with more money than they know what to do with under the captaincy of a racist, crooked, cheating cunt. England players openly admit that they would rather get paid playing for their club that the honour of representing their country. Teams get some rich Arab in and literally buy the league title, it's never about who managed their team the best, it's about who's got the most money. It sickens me.

I have a good friend from south england who follows Portsmouth
From what he tells me there are not enough background checks done on foreign owners, as his club went bankrupt and were then forced out of the premier league, he says the real clubs are in the lower leagues

Yep, the rest of the clubs can't catch up. Portsmouth spent beyond their means to keep up, it backfired on them and now they are struggling in the Championship while their manager who brought them to their knees is being touted as the next England manager

American sporting leagues don't come anywhere near the excitement because there is nothing at stake. They'll all share out players and never be relegated each year no matter what.
That's my opinion.

Old Marxist saying
From each according to his ability to each according to his need ....doesn't fit the pattern the way money flows in pro sports.
