The recent surge in premium “kidult” collectibles sold via blind‑box drops shows a crossover between pop culture, luxury and social media hype. Is this trend fun and harmless, or does it signal deeper consumerism and FOMO culture?
I think this is consumerism as well as FOMO. Consumerism because people are constantly pushed to buy these digital collectibles. FOMO because your friends are buying and talking about it on social media, thus, you also need them.
