Are all discussions of God speculative nonsense?

Many quote God’s WORD as coming from God’s own mind somehow yet that same WORD says that God is unknowable, unfathomable and mysterious. That same WORD is full of contradictions which may help demonstrate that God truly does work in mysterious, illogical ways.

Those who say they know the mind of God, lie, if the Bible is to be believed. According to it, God is un-knowable.

Many claim a personal relationship to their God yet few will admit apotheosis.
Are you/they lying if no actual personal contact has occurred?

Are all discussions, of any God, just speculative nonsense, or can a man actually know something of God’s thinking?

Are we all just spinning our wheels in discussions.

DL

All discussions about God are purely speculative. How much of it is nonsense, we can't say yet.

I fully believe that no one on either side that claims to know whether God exists are right. There is absolutely no concrete evidence either way. People who believe in God have no proof that he exists, and people who say he doesn't have no proof that that's the truth either. Literally, no one can come into this thread and say 'God does/doesn't exist, here is a cast iron, completely undoubtable reason why'. If they could, we wouldn't be having discussion in the first place :p

I didn't read your post because it's probably long and rambling and pointless, but the title of your thread is probably the first thing I've ever agreed with you on, it is indeed nothing but SPECULATIVE NONSENSE.

You are right of course.

Yes. Thanks to faith.

But even that faith should be tested by the faithful when they are told by some religious hierarchy what their God wants while at the same time as they tell them that what he wants cannot be known because God is un-knowable and un-fathomable.

Do theist not know when they are being lied to?
Seems like they do yet keep paying for lies.

Check this first woman. She knows yet is still in church with her little white envelope that insures that the abuse she got gets passed on to others on her stupid dime. WTF is wrong with Christians? I do not want to believe they are such fools but.

Have a hard time with 8 lines do you. I did not mean to hurt your tiny brain.
I don't know if I want agreement to someone with such a low attention span.

I can assure you, Christians are not the only fools in the world today.

Part of the problem IMO is the fact that it's usually the fools who get the press, particularly when it comes to Christianity.

When I was a Christian, I had a good mind but I didn't think for myself. I had been taught from a young age to "trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding", "unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven" and "the person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness." This is not the experience of all Christians. I was in a very fundamentalist group.

Humans need to believe in a higher power.

Top of the food chain, but are we the top of existence? Ponder that while you waste brain cells debating a topic that no one can win until they are dead.

I think that we are having the debate at all is FANTASTIC... I just don't think it needs 200 threads...

Here we are all different, with beliefs that are suited to our needs, wants, and desires. Without this debate we would have less of an understanding of what it is the 'other' believes. This argument is heated, which means it is on an important subject.

The debate is not there to be won, it is there to be had. The effect on our brain cells by not having this debate leads to ignorance and prejudice.

Nonsense, not always. Speculative, mostly. I personally enjoy these discussions, stupid or frustrating as they sometimes get. What fun is just hugging it out and saying "we're all right!"? As long as things are said as fairly and kindly as possible, I think there is a lot to learn. Even if what is learned is "wow this is stupid". :D

Strange then that all the non-believers out there are not exhibiting this need you speak of.

Proof or lie friend.

Regardless of what non believers think of what they truly believe or not, morals play a big part of their daily choices. This stems from believing that you must answer to a higher power at some point, whether it is the law or God or whatever you want to call it.

I am the biggest believer in Science and doubt the existence of "God". But I cannot rule out the possibility that there is some higher power, whether it is aliens or God or Gods.

If you don't think that humans need to believe in the existence of a higher power, then how in the world can you explain the Greek mythology or any religion that can be traced back to when man first walked the Earth. You make no sense. 97% of the world believes in some sort of religion.

What higher power is being served here?

And it may be philosophicaly beneficial especially if a participating individual has been indoctrinated at a young age.
