Mods feel free to move this to a more appropriate place

I have a cell phone - i want a smartphone, dont need one - want one

like the iPhone also like blackberries - need some help deciding which way to go

as I said i dont need this it is purely a toy, i dont get much e-mail and that which i do get I can access from work PC or home PC

i never send or receive text messages, however as my eldest daughter approaches her teenie years, this may change

I do listen to music a lot, also the radio ( my current cell has FM radio) I know iPhone does not have radio yet the Nokia N95 phone does l

i do browse the web a bit, but dont download much, my home internet acct allows me some 60 GB per mto download, i average 4-5 GB per month

I am iintrigued about apples apps avaialble for the iphone, some look like fun

so the factors are music, radio and fun

any clues - and btw my current phone a sony ericksson is great for the radio and music palyer bits and probbaly really suits my needs YET i feel the urge to upgrade and I cannot resist urges :)

The apps on the iphone are great. One of them is called Pandora and it will stream music based on the artist or band you choose. There is also AOL radio, which stream radio stations, so that might take care of your radio need.

As for fun, there are many game apps. Lot's of free games, some cost from 99 cents to a few dollars.

I have a BlackBerry Storm which is similar to an iPhone. It's also (I think) the only non-Apple product that will allow you to download iTunes to it. It does much of the same things as an iPhone, but it doesn't have WiFi...which you don't necessarily need as it has Internet access. I've had no problems with it and really like it! :) One of my good friends has an iPhone and it's pretty nifty as well...so really I guess it just comes down to who your service provider is and who will give you the best deal for the smartphone of your choice! :)

speaking of streaming internet radio - does that involve dowloading data? not sure how it works

thing is most plans limit you to a certain amount of data download per month - my service provider has plans for 500mb, 1 GB or 2 GB

Yes, there is a constant stream of data. With AT&T (the only provider we can get an iPhone through here) the only data plan offered is unlimited.

If you're just looking to dick around an iPhone probably wouldn't be too bad. If you start texting though, an iPhone (in my opinion) would be pretty shitty. I like my WinMo phone cause it's got really good organizers, email apps, etc. But that's me.

Texting on an iphone can be a bit of work. There is no 'feel' or sound when you type, so you get no feedback of any kind. It also wants to fix your misspellings, even if you meant for them to be like that - i.e. shorthand really freaks it out.

That freakin' sucks. You should move to the US so you can use it! :)

they say Pittsburgh is the place to be:p

you know what the more i think about this I think i just need an ipod touch, all the apps, tons of music, you can plug in an FM roadio thingy made ny griffin for 50 bucks

i need the music and video more than i need to talk on a phone, so i can keep my current phone on a reduced pay as i go deal and use the touch for the music

lets go stillers;)

Forget the iphone and get a ipod touch! Wait to get an iphone until the new ones come out.

actually that is good advice

the main reason for wanting to upgrade has nothing to do with phone fetures but everything to do with music

so i may keep my phone on a pay as you go contract, i only used 67 mins last month

and get a touch which of course needs no contract
