The free stuff are actually gimmicks to persuade u pay for the licenced ones. There is a big difference between the free stuff and the licenced ones

You can't rely on free editions anymore. Identity theft online is rising. You need to have top notch up-to-date licenced anti-virus programs.

The free editions does only 2 functions - protects your PC from viruses/spyware and prevents unauthorized changes to your applications. The licenced ones do more: Block emal and image spam, stop malicious downloads from websites, prevent phishing and block unsafe web pages, authenticate wireless hotspots and Wi-Fi networks, restrict internet access by specific categories, limit internet time and duration for children, automatic warning against suspicious links in IM and email - and more.

So don't be penny wise pound foolish

I prefer Paid Anti-Virus, as of now, Infact I have used both of them, but recently I purchased Kaspersky and its the best, good performance and it delivers more than expectation.
