It's funny listening to the left and the right when it comes to topics like this. The media pick up and these stories and run them into the ground like they are ground breaking news. You have to look at it this way, there are over 130,000 troops stationed in Iraq. Within that number, there will be individuals with the perpensity to commit crimes. It's just a matter of numbers. Sure, I'm sure that some of them may not have acted the same way in peace time, but these men and women are living through hell right now.

Good points Tim. And that is why I compared it to the Vietnam conflict. There were guys over there for over a year living in that hell and morale was very low for most of them. War can bring out the worst in some people. It seems the same is happening now in Iraq.
And I do agree with you about the media running stories into the ground. That's what they do the best.

If you took a city with a population of 130,000 with good conditions, you will still have murder, rape, etc... why does the media find it so amazing that it's happening with the troops in Iraq? A small percentage of bad individuals does not reflect on the rest of them. Just because they are US military does not exclude them from being human.

Too true. There are quite a few of the Corpsmen here in Rota that did tours over there with the Marines and some of them have some really bad horror stories about things that happened over there. I can definitely see it affecting those that have to see those things and to live with the constant danger of being there. I guess the media thinks they get better ratings when they report on the negative stuff than actually focusing on some of the positive things we are doing over there like rebuilding schools and setting up small villages with running water and electricity.

I think the Media Sensationalizes these instances, they seem commen when they are all you hear about, But for as many troops as we have over there, and as long as they have been there, commanality is not the problem.

Let's not forget, they may be soldiers, but they are still people and no one can be accountable for how any one person will behave or act,

How many rapes and killings happen everyday across the United States, Random acts of Violence, I guess if we were the actual War Zone, we might have better statistics,

That is exactly right. You've managed to place a solid 50% of America's problems into that one sentence nutshell. Well done. :rock

Media aside, another major problem we have is when our elected officials pretend that these stories are representative of the reality on the ground in Iraq in order to move their own agendas.

That to me is as close to unforgivable as I think anybody can get.

I sorry but since when did it become our military job to build schools, help little old ladies and kids across the street, painting run down buildings, etc.. that is the job of the peace core. This is all beening done to show that we are really nice people. No mater how you try to make it appear that we are there for good, this war still wrong. It was based on lies from day one, and the only people that are benefiting from this war are the big oil companies Ex. WAKE UP!!!!

So that fact that we've found hundreds of weapons of mass distruction there doesn't phase you at all?

The fact that Iraq is now a self governed nation, under a constitution doesn't have any impact on your views in the least?

You're telling us to wake up, but are you shure you're paying attention?

Ok I am going to explain this as easy as I can. Your responds proves that there is something wrong with the news media. I can tell by your tone of writing that you get your information from Fox news. It has been proven that Fox news is the worst when comes to reporting the facts about the war in Iraq. Here is proof, the weapons of mass distruction that Iraq supposed to have had, the ones that made us goto war, the ones that was going put a mushroom cloud over our cities, as of July 25, 2006 Weapons of mass distruction HAS NOT BEEN FOUND. Let me repeat the weapons of mass distruction that caused the war has not been found. Every new media has been reporting this including Fox news. However about a month or two ago Fox news reported breaking news out of Iraq. Out all the different news networks they were the only ones to report that Today our military have found the missing weapons of mass distructions. No other news media reported this that day. This is what the other news media said that day. Today our military has found some weapons of mass distruction that were pre-dated to the first gulf war of 1991. These weapons are not dangerous and been sitting the sand for over 15 years. And to make maters worst for Fox news that day, it was stated that these weapon has already been accounted for back in 2002 before the start of the war when the weapons inspectors were looking for weapons, so these were not newly found weapons. But the Fox news viewers never head that.
You see the problem. if you want to hear the real facts about the war listen to if you have cable Cspan, Democracy Now, link tv, on the radio you can listen to Air America radio.

I get my news from a variety of sources. For what it's worth, I also listen to Air America, and I catch Cspan whenever I can. You're argument is based around two ideas. The first, that ZERO WMD have been found in Iraq, and the second, of those non-existant weapons, the ones they do have are not dangerous. It is true that the Mustard gas does degrade over time in the heat. But the Sarin is going to be leathal for a long, long time.

As of July 25th, 2006 over 500 WMD warheads have been found in Iraq. These may be the wrong serial number for your taste, but it doesn't change the fact that they're there. Saddam did lie about having them, and the weapons inspectors did not find them before the war. We can argue about symantex all day, but facts are facts.

PS: Your choice of news outlets is a little slanted there. Two of the four sources you've sited are intentionally and openly extreem left. It would be like me trying to sell you on getting the "real facts" from Rush Limbaugh. I'm sure you would laugh at that idea almost as hard as I laugh about getting real information from Randi or Al.

Ok, I just wanted to make the point that this war in Iraq was started because we (Bush) wanted it, not because Iraq was a theat to us. It war based on lies not on terrorism from Iraq.

Let's go back to 911, I for one with millions and growing number of people that don't belive official story of why 911 happen. We blamed Bin Laden and his gang who lives in Afghanistan, for initiating 911. Ok for one month and only one month in November 2001 we go and bomb Afghanistan searching for Bin Laden. After one month 90% of the military effort was shifted over to Iraq to root out Sadam H. I hope that you agree with me that Iraq/Sadam H had nothing to do with 911. Later it was proven and even stated by Bush that Iraq had nothing to do with 911.
Now just think about this why would we spend more time, effort and soldiers lives to get rid of Sadam instead continuing the fight and looking for the guy who caused 911. (Bin Laden)
Why don't we complete the mission?
Its has almost been 5 years now since 911 and no justice has been made.
and we are fighting an endless war in Iraq with no end in sight. For what reason? well lets just say that Bush and his big Oil buddies knows why.

As far as Rush is conserned I don't belive a word that comes out of his mouth. For one thing he is a drug addict, he was/still hooked on Oxcy cotton, he lies, loves war so long as it is someone else doing the fighting and not him.

And one last thing did you hear that they are going to bring up Criminal charges against the NORD bosses for failing to do their job doing 911.
NORD job is to protect the airspace of the United States, and for some reason that day they could not get it together to intercept those planes on 911. From the looks of it one could say that the planes were allowed to hit those targets.

I also listen to Alex Jones. Google him if you don't know him.

Obviously you're not a kid of the 80's. NORAD has been in enough movies that you wouldn't have ever called it NORD. :)

This goes back to Pre vs. Post 911 thinking. In Pre 911 times, there wasn't enough warning or information. We had a plane that wasn't responding. Then there were two. Then holy crap, there's three. Somebody get NORAD on the line.... BOOM! A piece of America dies.

Scramble scramble scramble...... Interceptors get airborne, looking for threats from over the Atlantic like they're trained..... BOOM! Twice now we've been hit.

Negative, negative.... NYC is the target. Vector in... tracking a third bogie moving towards Washington. Alert alert alert.....

Crash in an empty field. The first of our hero's have struck back at the enemy in the war on terror....

Yeah, everything went to shit that day. It wasn't a crazy conspiracy though. It's right out in the open. In plain view. They laugh, and burn our flag and pray for our death. They've been doing it for 30 years.

You can sit back, and bitch about how unfair life is. You can buy into the idea that if we're nice and give them what they want they'll leave us alone. Or.... Or you can join your country men and stand up to evil in the world. Make no mistake my friend; the world is an evil place, and it's full of people that want you dead. They won't ask if you're liberal or conservative. They'll just demand money for you, and then chop your head off when they're done.

How's that for civilized?

" keep your friends close; your enemies closer " ... dont know who said that first...

the terrorists are only terrorists in the eyes of those applying the label..

and there is a compromise: take our people back to our country ( focus on our country, get it working to where it needs to be - another discussion ) for defensive. because i think our country needs to be defensive right now.

then, when the time is right ( by asking the people - since they are the ones you are responsible for if you hold a public office position ) , go on the offensive, but a limited offensive. of course, diplomatic means, but diplomacy is only as good as your military forces are. so, if we rebuild the military's image back up, make it seem glorious again, we should not have a problem of getting numbers back up. and then we could be a force to be reckoned with again. sure technology is great, but apparently, as seen in afghanistan and iraq, technology is only as good as its users.

i would just press many big red buttons, but thats just me :tard
