Another abortion poll? Yeah, I know... been there, done that.

BUT...

There are three separate beliefs involved. The traditional "pro-choice" and "pro-life" labels do not distinguish between all the categories.

Let's define the categories.

pro-life: Life is precious.
anti-life: Life sucks.

pro-choice: A woman should be allowed to decide if she has an abortion.
anti-choice: A woman should not be allowed to decide if she has an abortion.

pro-abortion: An abortion is sometimes the right thing to do.
anti-abortion: An abortion is never the right thing to do.

Here are the two extreme positions.

1) pro-life, anti-choice, anti-abortion: Life is precious. Women should never be allowed to have an abortion for any reason.

2) anti-life, anti-choice, pro-abortion: Life sucks. Women should never be allowed to have a baby for any reason.

I would expect most people to fall somewhere in between. Let's find out.

Here's an example to illustrate. I am pro-life, pro-choice and pro-abortion. That means life is precious but women should be allowed to abort an unwanted fetus. In fact, I think she should abort an accidental pregnancy if she doesn't want a baby. (Btw, I'm pro-birth control to prevent this scenario from happening in the first place. But that's another poll.)

Too complicated? Ah, come on, you can do it! Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Life is precious yes. I will say there is sometimes some justification behind having an abortion. The woman might have been raped for example, in which case the baby might be a forever memory of how it became conceived. That's just one example.

So with this said, I'm kinda in the middle, in that I can see that sometimes abortion is justified but it shouldn't just be a decision to be taken lightly. It isn't murder though, murder by very definition is the taking of a life. Until that baby is born it doesn't have a life, in basic and real terms.

Pro-life, Anti-choice, Anti-abortion. Except of course in extreme cases, such as if the birth poses a threat to the mother's life.

Pro-life, anti-choice, pro-abortion.

Personally, I would never get an abortion, and I only selected it because you put "sometimes" in your definition.

If there is no way for the child to survive being born, then there is no need to endanger the mother. If there is no way for the woman to survive, then I say it's up to the mother, father and medical staff they've chosen to trust to discuss the best options.

If a woman is raped, then I can see the psychological toll an unwanted child would have. Is it fair to the child? No. But is it fair to the mother to have to carry it? Oh, it's easy to say give it up for adoption, but there's a nine month gap between "crap, I'm pregnant" and the baby being taken away by it's adoptive family. (Of course, my mother was the product of rape and I'm very glad her biological mother chose the adoption route.)

Now, I draw the line at this sort of situation: You're 17 (or some similar age where you're old enough to know what's going on) and you take clothes off and put body parts inside other body parts and OOPS a sperm and egg meet, well guess what? TOUGH SHIT. You knew the consequences, you chose to play with fire, and you got burned. You're in no position to play God. Suffer the consequences.

But that's just me.

I voted and I am pro life pro choice but I'm also pro abortion cuz nobody should tell a woman what she can or cant do with her body. Especially under circumstances as in rape and such. BUT I don't feel abortion should be used as contraception or a form of birth control. :thumbdown

Poor attempt of humor to lighten the subject matter I think.

Tough room. ;)

Actually, I don't expect anyone to select anti-life. My point is that pro-life is kind of a non issue.

But that's just me.

Not sure I understand. Are you anti-choice because you would never choose one or are you saying no woman should be allowed to choose one?

I'm not sure I understand either. There's no true black and white with it for me. Maybe I should have just put my explanations and not voted?

I guess anti-choice because if you left it open then anyone could walk in for any reason without question and have one done at any time. Or is that not how that would work?

never heard of it being used as a form of birth control.... Condoms aren't 100% and shit happens. I'm pro choice.... if a woman isnt ready for a child who is anyone to say she has to keep it?

side note: this poll fucking confuses the fuck out of me... just use one fucking word per choice.

Some women do use it as birth control. Instead of using some form of protection they will just have sex without it and have an abortion just as a form of birth control. If they had unprotected sex and had an abortion in order to not have a child that is using it as birth control...If a woman isn't ready for a child she shouldn't be having unprotected sex on your last note here...

I chose pro for everything. I agree that life is good. And every woman should have a choice in a matter that will affect her deeply. Abortion at the recommended early stage is fine, but after that I wouldn't. A bunch of cells isn't going to realise what it missed out on, it's not developed enough to be conscious and aware of anything. Sorry if you don't like how I put it, but it's how I see it.
I think that denying a woman choice is taking away freedom a little, but some might argue that abortion takes away the choice/freedom of the fetus, because they might argue that they are humans too.
I guess it depends on the situation. I agree that any woman should be able to have an abortion, but not be used as birth control. Wouldn't there be only a certain number of abortions your uterus could handle?

I chose pro-life, pro-choice, pro-abortion.

Personally, I don't think I could ever have an abortion but that's not to say I haven't considered it and I would not ever criticise someone who did. Abortion is an extremely complex area, there are so many reasons why a woman would choose to abort a baby and there are the issues with early abortions vs late abortions (In the UK, women can have abortions up until 24 weeks of pregnancy but the doctors do everything to stop you doing that [apart from if the abortion is for medical reasons]).

However, women who have multiple abortions just becuase they can't be bothered to use any birth control, do disgust me.
