U.S. Warns Of Stronger Al-Qaeda

Administration Report Cites Havens in Pakistan

By Spencer S. Hsu and Walter Pincus
Washington Post Staff Writers
Thursday, July 12, 2007;

Six years after the Bush administration declared war on al-Qaeda, the terrorist network is gaining strength and has established a safe haven in remote tribal areas of western Pakistan for training and planning attacks, according to a new Bush administration intelligence report to be discussed today at a White House meeting.
The report, a five-page threat assessment compiled by the National Counterterrorism Center, is titled "Al-Qaida Better Positioned to Strike the West," intelligence officials said. It concludes that the group has significantly rebuilt itself despite concerted U.S. attempts to smash the network...

It's almost 6 years after 9/11 and Bin Laden is still on the loose... this is 2130 days after Bush said we would capture him dead or alive. The REAL Al Qaeda is stronger now than it was pre 9/11. Our troops are quickly approaching their breaking point in Iraq. We have removed Saddam who had NOTHING to do with the attacks on our country. We have stirred up a hornets nest in the middle east, creating a civil war and groomed the perfect breeding ground for terrorist recruitment.

I am so God Damn proud of Bush. :confused

hmm, not surprised. if anything this whole war on terrorism has given the al queda more movement.

Yeah, and that concerns me. There are terrorists out that need to be dealt with before they become a real problem to us. We need to focus on taking these guys out. The intelligence community has it's work cut out for it.

Our troops are quickly approaching their breaking point in Iraq.

I hear that a lot, but can never get a good answer as to why.

I have a massive amount of respect for you Tim, so please understand I'm not being a dick by asking you, but ... why do you think this?

Oh I don't know, melting innocent people to the ground seems sort of much to me.

I'm guessing that maybe our troops are spread too thin to really fight the insurgence on a effective level.

Testimony by Maj Gen John Batiste, US Army (Ret)
House Committee on Foreign Affairs
27 June 2007
Our national strategy for the global war on terror lacks strategic focus; our Army and Marine Corps are at a breaking point with little to show for it; the current “surge” in Iraq is too little, too late; the Government of Iraq is incapable of stepping up to their responsibilities; our nation has yet to mobilize to defeat a very serious threat which has little to do with Iraq; and it is past time to refocus our national strategy and begin the deliberate withdrawal of US forces from Iraq.

Here's one that I remembered off the top of my head... I know there are more but I have to do some digging.
There have been quite a few retired Generals speaking out lately. I always love hearing what they have to say, they know what's going on, they understand. Far more than Bush will ever know. And the sad part is, Bush DOESN'T listen to the commanders on the ground like he says time and time again. I really wish he would start listening to them more. When I listen to them talk, they make a lot of sense.

Oh yeah, I do remember this now. When these retired Generals started speaking out against the war, it was major headlines, but I haven't heard muich about them as of late.

The first time it happened (what was it, a year ago?) I remember thinking I could blow it off because he was retired, but when I really think about it, I don't know of any General that ever really retires. lol They keep their noses in everything.

You've got me on a homework assignment Tim.

This is why I love asking you questions. :D You actually know why you believe things!!

When it comes to information on the military, I tend to trust what the Generals are saying. It just so happens to be the retired ones that are speaking out since they really can't do that while they are on active duty. I'm sure that some of them may have an agenda or an ax to grind, but when it's a bunch of them, you start to listen to what they are saying.

I don't want you to get me wrong. I don't think the military IS broken or it will be shortly. I just think that the path that's on is not healthy for the troops at all. I don't think they are getting the support and the resources needed to be as effective as possible. I'm a firm believer in that if you are going to make the decision to put our troops in harms way, then you better be prepared to back them 100% with what ever resources they need. DON'T short change them with equipment, medical care (during and after) and rest. This administration has not been a friend of the troops and it pains me to see that.

My nephew is in boot camp right now in his 5th week at fort Benning GA. I hope he gets all the training he needs before they send him out their. He's going to be a combat medic, so he'll be up on the front lines. He's a lot like me when it comes to the war. He thinks we are over there for all the wrong reasons and thinks we should pull out. But on the other hand, he has a strong sense of patriotism and loves this country. He wanted to become a combat medic so he can take care of the soldiers. The boy has a great heart and I hope this experience doesn't take that from him.
Maybe this can be a reminder that just because some of us oppose the Bush administration's handling of the war, it doesn't mean we hate or even dislike this country and what it stands for. In fact, it shows that we care enough to stand up and say something.

again, this is so crazy, dont go to pakistan, dont go in the middle east, give them no reason to attack us anymore. bin laden is not a hitler or nepolean, he does not seek world conquest. he goes after people who meddle in his own affairs, whether they be with his own people, or neighboring lands. al-qaeda needs a leader with similar ideology and power of bringing people under an umbrella, but someone who can sort things out without all the death. if anyone here wishes to be that person, like ghandi or someone, i say go for it, if not, al-qaeda will always be around, and always go about things the wrong way.
i say learn every ounce of their history (if you dont already), get to know why they do what they do, learn the ideology, then go to afghanistan, iraq, pakistan, who cares, and try and lead, be a martyr if you feel so big as to go over there and lay your life on the line, and try it without a gun, and see how big your balls really are, lol. dont perpetuate the problem, try and bring strong knowlege, emotion, empathy, passion, voice......not violence, they love that shit.

Very well said.

Anyone ever notice that countries that do not have interests in the middle east, or dabble in middle eastern affairs are NEVER attacked by terrorist groups? Strange, huh?

I agree. I don't know why the US thought that a war on terrorism is possible in the first place. Terrorists are not an army, not the majority of the popullation and they don't fioght in the same way. Throwing out a war just gives them an excuse to go on with their agenda, telling people things like "look we were right, they want to kill us, we have to defend ourselves". I only know 2 ways of fighting terrorism and actually defeating it: getting to agreements (I don't always support this, but it's also because I have way two much experience when it comes to terrorism) or police investigation (in the case of international terrorism will have to be the intelligence services, who, btw, helped prevent a lot of attacks in the UK, and in Spain found those responsible for the attacks on 3/11).
