I'm not trying to argue but do you ever post anything positive??? I mean when something shitty happens and imagine that its war shitty things happen you're all over it but I've yet to see you post anything positive and when someone else does you call it bullshit...I'm really just trying to understand why

Things like this need to be seen. Even if its a war, children being killed is a tragedy. Enough "positive" stuff gets posted here for you to read. I hardly ever see anything negative.

That's a terrible situation, and I can't imagine how those troops are feeling. But it's not their fault the enemies barricaded themselves in a building that had kids in it. Should the troops have just walked away? How were they supposed to know who was in the building? They were in a life or death situation, and their survival is their priority. They neutralized the threat as best they could. The civilian casualties are regrettable, but unavoidable.

so the coalition kills a woman and 2 kids.....its sad but......its absolutely nothing to what the taliban are doing with the suicide bombers.....when are people going to realise that to win this thing we need to stop being whiter than white and just let those boys get the job done

It no way excuses the fact that 2 kids got killed, accident or not.

I'm confused by what you mean with your "stop being whiter than white" comment?

man, this is going to get ugly, I bet..........

Collateral damage sucks. BIG TIME!!!!!

BUT,

it's an UNAVOIDABLE sidebar to war, however, and people who whine about it and use it as a call to end a conflict have neither the foresight or the intestinal fortitude to complete the mission.

Let me say again, collateral damage SUCKS!!

And there was a shitload of it to go around when those planes struck those buildings.

well of course collateral sucks. no arguing that. Wow, I hate the word "collateral" when applying it to human life. Its like we're talking about meaningless things.

What does excuse the fact is that our troops were taking fire from the building, had a positive ID on the location of the fire, and took the steps needed to ensure their safety.

Exactly. But in war it's unavoidable, especially when the enemy uses civilians (of all ages and gender) as human shields. Unbearably unjust.

me, too, but it's just terminology. Is there a better description?

I feel for anyone caught in that situation. I would hate to be one of those troops knowing that kids were killed...

But come on, lets get real here for a second... a few kids? Big deal, so what... It's nothing in comparison to Iraq... and I'm not bringing this shit up for no good reason... but lets face it, most Americans that support the Iraq invasion don't realize that for every American lost on 9/11 there have been 100 Iraqi children killed by the invasion. So what's a few more kids in Afghanistan???

I want to stop terrorism just as much as the next guy... I just think we went about it the wrong way. Hell, Bin Laden is still as free as most of his top lieutenants are... what a fucking shame.

I just wish we had a president (dem or republican) who would have done this shit right from the beginning... there are too many people dead, the bad guys are still on the loose and we still aren't any safer here at home.

There are reports of 1.2 million deaths since the Iraq war began in 2003. Some are as low as 150,000 deaths, but the majority of reports puts the number at 655,000 deaths with about 1/2 under the age of 18... So that's somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000 to 600,000 children... I went with 300,000 children....

but for the sake of argument, let's go with the low end of the estimating.... 50,000 children is a hell of a number for us to feel safer. Don't you think?

Is this counting the number of armed combatants under 18 who attack our troops?

well.....the coalition troops have to do everything by the book......would be easier for them if they were told to just go out there and sort it out.....no PC to appease the minorities back home.....just get the job done
