Some of you will recognize parts of this, I'm sure.

The Ode to What is Lost

Follow me down if you will away from the sun
To the darkest place that shifts the light away from me.

You are afraid that everyone will see your star fade
The one you sold as a bill of goods to fool the world.
Somehow, you lost yourself and made the trade.
It is unreal how this all unfurled
You're coming up with reasons
And like it or not, it's the changing of the seasons.

I feel so contaminated and confused, and it’s unfair
Holding on to all that I thought was safe…
It seems, however, that I’ve found the Road to Nowhere
When I bellowed back I heard nothing but wind and chafe
Even when I try vainly to reflect upon all of my mistakes
It is only gray that I see, and over and over again my heart breaks.

If I were down to one last breath,
I’d say that it only hurts when I breathe then frown
In the end, maybe six feet down in the hole doesn’t seem so far down

You should know that your lies won't hide your flaws
No point in running from yours because they will all say
The once righteous one with all the promise fell without cause.
I just can’t figure out why you gave up on your dreams along the way

You’ll get your freedom now, but who is it that you serve?
You took for granted the very thing you should have preserved.
There is so much that has been laid asunder
That the lies, betrayal and treachery used for their wicked plunder
